Voluntary Safety Recall of Fitbit Ionic Smartwatches

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

ionic_product.pngFitbit, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced a voluntary recall of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches, which the company introduced in 2017 and stopped producing in 2020. The battery in the Ionic smartwatch can overheat, posing a burn hazard.

The health and safety of Fitbit users is our highest priority. We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution for our users. We will offer a refund to Fitbit Ionic customers.

This voluntary recall is specific to Fitbit Ionic devices. It does not impact any other Fitbit smartwatches or trackers.

If you have an impacted Fitbit Ionic device, please stop using it and visit our webpage where you’ll find:

I was prompted by the fitbit app to deactivate my Fitbit Ionic following a recall campaign. Filed all the necessary paperwork, was a long, multi-step process, with a third party company that had a very unusable website, but I managed to navigate through it and was told to expect a payment soon. Weeks later, my device is unusable and no money has been paid into my account. I went online and it looks like they are not paying for the devices they asked their consumers to deactivate. I contacted customer support, they were unable to say anything other than "We're sorry for the disservice". No reply as to what's stopping the company from paying or when I can expect them to fulfill their obligation. I asked them to escalate the matter and they didn't. I asked them contact details for me to raise the thing through a consumer protection agency and they refused to provide an address. I am in shock by the appalling customer experience. An international organization acting like a they're a mom & pops shop in 1992. I am now questioning if I'll ever see my money again. Has anyone seen their Ionic recall payment? Is there an official answer as to why they prompted people to deactivate their devices and are not following up with their customers??

I have also experienced the same thing.  Additionally, I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and I think that if others file a complaint as well, it might help everyone.

It stands for Better Business Bureau. People in the US hesitate to do business with a company that has a poor rating.

I've been waiting for the refund way longer than the 3-6 weeks stated. I'm very disappointed with this case.

Best Answer

I'm at 12 weeks for the first ones I sent in.

Finally after 4 months and  numerous telephone calls, messages on social media and emails I finally got my refund yesterday. You have to pester which I know you shouldn’t but finally it worked. I don’t  think I’d have got it otherwise.
