My Ionic died 2.5 weeks ago, it was just over 2 years old. It seems like the plastic film covering the HR sensor "cracked" and the water got in killing the watch. It actually started heating up very quickly so I hat to take it off my wrist immediately! Damaged batteries have a nasty habit of heating up and even "exploding" in some cases, so that's quite bad.
I contacted support via webchat 2.5 weeks ago, and they said someone will contact me regarding this, but guess what? Nobody did. The watch is probably out of warranty, anyway.
Quite disappointing for a £200 watch, it clearly seems like a design flaw. The film cracked right by the edges of the two "squares" that are part of the sensor. There's no way it's physical damage since it's the part that's in contact with skin, so... beware, I guess? I've seen similar topics, so it seems like I'm not the only one with the same problem.
