What do you Think of your Ionic so Far?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So I just ordered the new Ionic and it should arrive on Friday and was wondering about the ones that have received their Ionic so far what do you think?

  • is it very heavy or light ?
  • is it to big ?
  • what to you think about transferring music?
  • how is the battery life?
  • is the screen bright enough?
  • do it stay on long enough to read your text messages and can you respond to texts from the watch.
  • how is the accuracy
  • I'm sure I will have a lot to say once I get mine in, i'm going from my Microsoft Band 2 that I loved and will miss dearly

@Davem10 I have seen some. If I decide to switch to any other tracker I will make sure I did my homework this time. Too much trust may backfire.

Had mine for about a week now and... well I have a very mixed feelings.

I used to use Charge HR, which I loved, along with Samsung Gear S3. I decided to ditch two separate devices and swap it for a 1 that will be as much fitness tracker as smart watch (mostly for notifications use).

So here's what I think so far...

There's still a lot, I mean A LOT, to improve in Ionic's firmware. Sometimes it's a bit laggy.

As a smartwatch it actually fails in pretty much every aspect. You can't even accept or reject calls using Ionic if you're an android user. There's almost no apps for this watch. The only smartwatch functionality that seems to work at the moment are notifications (which sometimes come delayed or don't come at all). But you could get notifications on Blaze, old and much cheaper device.

Weather App is a joke, constantly loosing it's location even tho I have it set to specific city, asking me to sync my fitbit app even tho I only just synced it.

Coach App is a joke, and again it's just a copy of the app we could see on Blaze.

Fitbit pay doesn't work in UK yet, at least not with TSB bank.

The only thing that is nice is big choice of watch faces.

As a fitness tracker it does quite a good job but... Heart rate monitoring is a bit erratic. Took it for a run the other day and compared the graph with TT Runner Cardio watch (borrowed from friend) and wow, two completely different results. Where graph from TT was going up and down depending on terrain, Ionic's graph was pretty much stead line as if running up the hill wasn't affecting my bpm.

Gps tracking works fine and had no issues with this so far.

The worst thing is that since I got my Ionic, the battery life on my Galaxy S8 dropped by few hours, even tho I have "Live data" and "always connected" and "all-day sycn" disable. It seems that sending just notifications to the watch use much more power than it used to use when I had my Gear S3.

Overall, it's a good fitness tracker (but still needs a lot of improvements) and it's a very very poor smartwach.

It just gives the impression that Ionic is nothing but a refreshed version of Blaze and nothing more. Definitely overpriced and feels like unfinished product.

But because I sold my gear s3 and already gave my charge hr to my mum, I'll be keeping the Ionic for now and keep my fingers crossed that with time and some updates this device will become what fitbit promised it to be but it isn't yet.

Thanks

To answer the original poster:

  • Having wanted a Blaze with GPS, it's pretty much exactly what I was looking for in a running watch.
  • The weight and size are just fine for my wrist.
  • Transferring music is to be done biannually over several beers or glasses of wine.  I have successfully set up Pandora and Music within my Ionic, but I found that neither are really worth it, and eventually ended my paid Pandora subscription.
  • Battery life is ok.  I always have BT on, and I run 5 - 10k daily with GPS going, both of which will drain it significantly.  I will charge it every three days at a minimum.
  • The screen is great, and people have commented positively on its brightness.
  • Messages appear on the screen and are removed with ease; no responses to texts as of yet, but if they add this, there will likely be pre-set responses a la Apple Watch.
  • GPS accuracy is pretty good; HR and RHR correlate well with my activity, sleep, and alcohol intake.
  • It's a d@mn sure better than any of my previous wrist fitness thingies.

One week with it so far and everything is working as it should be.  I'm not experiencing any of the issues other folks have been reporting.

What do I think of the Ionic actually ?

Angry, disapointed, waste of money are the words that describe my feeling.

It was my first and last experience with fitbit.

Stupid i was, i took also the aria 2 and an alta tracker for my wife.

I have given the ionic rto my wife until I buy her a new tracker from garmin...

I plan also to replace the aria with the index of garmin...

Problem is that the ionic is very good... On paper.

i could not get it working totally. Call notifications don't woek with my s7 edge (my wife also has the problem and I contacted the support about it but they could not help), the HR sensor isn't accurate (HR too high), VO2 same, apps are not really usefull (but here i forget fitbit as this is a new os)

Good things: autonomy

I took a fenix 5 from garmin. Notifications works well, hr is relatively accurate, vo2 is not as high it was with the fitbit (and i think it is more accurate). The interface of the watch is really good. I have everything i need on it and there is an always on display clock.

Moreover the garmin connect app is really good.

If I had an advice for fitbit, for keeping the others customers (too late for me and my wife), I would say "Fix your watch" ...

Since dropping back down to my Blaze after returning the Ionic, I can' say I have missed much except the water resistance.  The Ionic just didn' feel like a $300 device.

I still hold out hope for the Ionic. My blaze was unusable on my Note 8 but an update fixed that and all is well. The same could happen with those having issues with the Ionic, but it may be a long wait.

The Fenix 5 is a beautiful fitness watch, but it is also almost twice the price I paid for the Ionic.

I believe the Ionic will continue to improve, it is still early days after all.

It is early days but we should not be paying full price to be a beta testers who in reality received a Blaze in
refreshed body + gps.

As for the Fenix 5, yeah it is a great fitness watch but the price is massive. So not really a comparison with Ionic.

I still miss my Gear S3, wish I never sold it.

That's true...

However I bought a Ionic the october 1st 2017, so nearly 5 month ago.

My first ionic has been out of order less than one month after acquiring it.

The call notification problem has appeared when I have got a new watch.

After nearly 25 mails, the support has not found a solution about my problem.

Moreover, when I compare with the datas of the fenix 5, i really think the ionic was not accurate.

So, i just regret to have bought it and, as I said, I have the feeling that I have wasted my money on this device.

Before the ionic, i had a pebble time that was working like a charm. Fitbit acquired a karge part of the pebble's work and team, so I was confident about this device.

However, I am really happy with the fenix 5. And there are other watch less expensive from garmin... Something I think about for my wife

At the moment not happy . Ionic always seems to struggle to sync ( blaze always synced no problem ) , three days ago I noticed clock was 5mins slow ,two days ago 10mins slow then yesterday wouldn't sync at all so spent a day and a half doing all sorts of trouble shooting and still not resolved very frustrated . $400 wrist band don't even tell time

You guys have convinced me.  I have had a long relationship with FitBit and have found their customer service to be responsive but I won't be a $300 beta tester for a product that apparently still needs a lot of polishing and hardening.  I have worked for an engineering/manufacturing company for more than 30 years now and with a more global economy and overseas competition, the pressure is greater than ever to rush the product to market even when it is still flawed and it seems such is the case with the Ionic.

Are fitbit actually seeing these reviews?? It’s been 5 months now and nothing has changed in the uk regarding banking or music partnership. Glorified blaze, so disappointed.

Fitbits bringing out a new blaze and charge this year.....the blaze is due the first half of this year, and is going to be styled along the lines of the Ionic. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it comes with built-in GPS. They really need something cheaper and simpler than the Ionic, with built-in GPS for folks who don't need all the extras and higher price of the Ionic, but want onboard GPS capabilities.

That is exactly what I wanted, a fitness tracker with GPS and some smart functionality such as notifications. Ended up with overpriced fitness tracker with unreliable and poor smart functionality. On top of that the Fitbit app drains 0.5% of my battery per hour for absolutely no reason (all day sync - off, always connected - off, live data - off) even tho I'm only syncing once a day.

That is interesting...  1/2 of 1% per hour comes out to something like 12% over 24 hours. That isn't a lot of battery drain compared to other phone features, such as Bluetooth, the phone OS, etc.. At that rate, it would take 8 days for the Fitbit app to drain the battery.
