What do you Think of your Ionic so Far?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So I just ordered the new Ionic and it should arrive on Friday and was wondering about the ones that have received their Ionic so far what do you think?

  • is it very heavy or light ?
  • is it to big ?
  • what to you think about transferring music?
  • how is the battery life?
  • is the screen bright enough?
  • do it stay on long enough to read your text messages and can you respond to texts from the watch.
  • how is the accuracy
  • I'm sure I will have a lot to say once I get mine in, i'm going from my Microsoft Band 2 that I loved and will miss dearly

However, there may one day be an option to.

But, my original point was not anything to do with this... Just that the music upload feature now is lacking.

I am completely in love, yesterday I wished I had waited a month or so for the software to to be completely sorted but the watch itself is just beautiful and has GPS everything I wanted. I loved my blaze so this is like a better Blaze and I am very happy with it. Heart

All good so far except:

* Not supplying a power supply, and the small lead length didn't give a good initial impression

* Setup is a nightmare, as others have experienced it takes ages to download updates. Connecting to WiFi was difficult as well (had to do it several times before it worked!).

* No 5 GHz wifi, weird it's 2017.

* Too much reliance on Bluetooth rather than use Wifi

* No FLAC support 😞

* Software only works using portrait mode, I need landscape for my tablet 😞

* A few little annoying bugs (I've posted this elsewhere).

I have not tackled music.

I hope most of this will be quickly resolved.

I really don't understand why a 300 dollar watch doesn't come with a wall charger..... most every other quality $300 piece of electronic equipment does 😞

Shame on you Fitbit.

Someone else mentioned this, but I'm glad it doesn't.  I feel like I have hundreds of USB wall chargers and various cables for them sitting around, I feel like it's so wasteful for manufacturers to keep putting them out like candy.  Out of the 3 green Rs, reduce, reuse, recycle, the one with the most most positive impact *by far* is reduce...it's nice to reuse and recycle, but if you don't add more in the first place it's a lot more effective!

So far I am really impressed with the Ionic. It's light and it fits my wrist well. I haven't used all the features, but so far here is my list so far and I will continue to update it as I find more and use it more as currently I have only had it for less than a day.

* I like how I can re-arrange all the apps so that when I swipe to the left I get the apps that I use frequently first

* I also like how I can re-arrange the order of what I want to see in the Today app

* Configuring Starbucks app was easy (still have to try using it)

* Configuring weather was easy

* Screen looks good

* Configuring and updating, for me, was easy and painless

* Like being able to select which apps you want to receive notifications from

Cons (if you can call them that)

* I would like to be able to add, delete or adjust alarms from the Fitbit app like other trackers rather than being only able to do it from the Ionic

* Wish you didn't have to be a Pandora Plus member to be able to use Pandora app

Did you really say that ChromeOS and Ubuntu are popular operating systems ?

@gibbyhome, yup, Chromebooks have been outselling Macs since the beginning of last year and Ubuntu must easily be the most popular Linux distros.

But arguing over the popularity of OSs probably distracts from my and others' main point - getting music onto the Ionic seems needlessly onerous and restrictive. Let's see some support for Android and streaming services like Spotify!

I've had three or four Surges- (they failed with water damage, cracked glass, bad watch bands), and one Charge 2.  I've had my new Ionic for just 24 hours now and I'm loving it!  The heart rate monitor for me has been perfect- spot-on match to cardio machines at my gym.  The Surges were always 10 or more bpm low at higher heart rates.  My Charge 2 would just give up any time my heartbeat was over 130 or so.

The screen on the Ionic is perfect- bright and colorful.  My Pandora sync was slow but worked fine.  Bluetooth pairing to my Bose Soundsports was easy and fast.  I hope it keeps working as well as it has for me- best Fitbit yet!

I don't personally care about the non-fitness apps, but the weather app seems pretty useful.

Thanks

To re-arrange the apps, just hold down on the one you want to move and move it to where you want it, just like you would on a iPhone or Android phone

Same goes for the items in the today app - just press and hold on the one you want to move and then move it up or down to where you want it.

Don't forget that the order of the first two apps set the two buttons on the right.....

(Already did a post on it, but.....)

First screen, top left app is top right button, first screen bottom left app is bottom right button.

Pretty sweet way to quickly get to those two apps.

What do I think so far?

I’m not sure... In one hand it’s a beautiful device which is comparable to Apple Watch (when I put Polar M430, Garmin Forerunner 735XT, Fitbit Ionic and Apple Watch side by side, Fitbit and AW are beautiful as other two are ... not beautiful).

I like Ionic’s display brightness but wrist movement display activation works not as good as Apple Watche’s (and there are problems recognizing it even on AW). I very much like Polar M430 and Garmin FR 735XT always-on displays but brightness and display quality is better for Ionic.

Battery lasts for two days. This includes two half hour runs and 50-song playlist sync.

Software is slow. Yes, it’s not so smooth and fast as I would like. I don’t like to wait when I operate my watch. When I push a button I expect response to be instantaneous. Garmin and Polar are both faster than AW and Ionic.

I would like social aspects of Fitbit app but I have exactly one friend who uses Fitbit 🙂 So ... this is something that isn’t important for me yet.

And now I’m deciding whether to go with practical side (Garmin’s 5-day battery + sports oriented usage) or Fitbit Ionic (beauty +

slightly better battery than AW)

I've decided to go with the Ionic, @jannolii, but if they don't fix the seemingly buggy software, add apps (Spotify, Audible) and additional features/metrics (running cadence, open water swimming) reasonably quickly, I'm likely to switch over to Garmin. I came very close to buying the Forerunner 935 tri-bundle a couple of months ago.

So far so good, coming from a strong fitness and IT background... Updated and charging right now- no issues with syncing, was able to remove Starbucks and Pandora... Props for letting us kill unwanted bloatware. *Unless you use them* Love the magnetic charger connection- Strap will take a little to get use to. Comparing this to an AW3 LTE that I have and one will end up going back after a week of testing IE: better device for me. Avid Gym/Nutrition type person so highly important overall. I will say over the Blaze this watch will have to do more for me than just waterproofing = ) while its nice... hitting $330 after tax is mmm lol. Will update once wearing and testing etc...

I am a longtime Fitbit user, and I really feel misled about the Ionic. Downloading music was not "simple," Pandora only works if the user has a paid account, and the Dexcom functionality isn't rolled out yet.  One of the main reasons we bought my husband the Ionic is so he can use it to see his blood sugar number from the Dexcom.  And, my god, this thing is ugly.

How do you reorganize apps?

Hold them down and move them like a smartphone-

Unfortunately, this was a shorter test than I would have liked- Undoubtedly I have a skin sensitivity and burning like feeling etc. to the sensor membrane on the back of the Ionic... Returning tonight = (
