What triggers a tracker's time to update?

Hello,

Assuming all the settings are correct for the time on a tracker to update when it changes time zones, what actually triggers the update on both the Ionic and Versa series trackers?  The tracker can be passing info with the phone (which shows the correct time) and still not update.  I've installed new clock faces and the time does not update.  Yet, sometime within the next hour, the time corrected.

So, what are all the requirements for the time to update?

Thanks.

In my experience it when it syncs as long as you a) have your phones times update too and b) have the setting in the app set to automatic. I will say a few firmwares ago my watch would get confused and I would have to do a hard reset on my ionic

I just spent another week on the road,  Some days were frustrating, others not too bad.  At one point, I spoke with customer support who told me that the times would not auto-update when I changed time zones 😖.  My time zones updated twice (within an hour of landing) the next day.

"Forgetting" to put my phone in airplane mode (you know...like you are supposed to do) a couple of times appeared to help my Versa 2 adjust time correctly.  The time change did not happen within seconds, but it did happen in under an hour.

So, Fitbit experts, my question remains.  What causes a tracker to update its' time?
