Has there been any update when the spo2 sensor will be available for use. It was the only reason I chose this watch over the others I was looking to buy.

When did they tease the Ionic 2?

In regards to the alleged new SPO2 feature on the Versa 2 - either they have a new sensor or they finally got off their collective behinds.  But unless the sensor on the 2 works and they don't on the older watches, they would be crazy to not release it for older ones.  But this assumes that tne new feature will actually show up.

You've got to wonder about their motivation.  I'm hearing that they are having financial problems; it does seem to me that they truly don't care.  When I've gotten tech support, it typically doesn't solve anything.  In particular, I can go for hours at a time when my Versa does not record a pulse.  Sensor is clean, strap tight enough that looseness should not be an issue.  But in, say, an 8 hour sleep period, there could be 3 hours in the middle when I'm asleep when it thinks I'm awake.  But all their responses seem right out of the preprogrammed list of nothing responses.  And the need for apnea information is something they talk about but seemingly put no effort into.  This is all sad, because there are a lot of good uses for what they make.  But my guess is that they won't survive long term.

Although a “small” minority, it’s important to keep in mind the driver of the frustration. A promise not kept and driven by intense slick marketing. In the world of tech, progress is not often linear, but customer do deserve a forthright response.

Can you imaging if Apple behave in a similar manner? The key to success and customer tolerance is “under promise and over deliver”! Treating each customer in a manner “you” would want to be treated.

A straight forward candid discussion would eliminated this so call “toxic” discussion and provided “grace period for delays.

The president of Fitbit told Techcrunch early this year that an Ionic refresh was in the works.

I posted a link and quote last night, but that has since disappeared.

Ok, well I now have Fitbit Premium as I was a beta tester for Project Narwhal and that has activated sleep score on my ionic (currently averaging 83 for this week).  If i select a night WITHOUT sleep score it tells me that I may not get valid sleep readings 'If your device doesn't have an oxygen saturation (Sp02) sensor.'  Thereby implying that the sensor is now active.

Best Answer

I get the sleep score in the free version, the premium hasn't come to my area yet (UK) is it worth paying for, how much extra data do you get in the sleep stages?

The paid version gives you scores on the 4 items that makeup the overall score. So you can track them too.

I don't have the paid version, but I did Beta. And I even have a sleep disorder so sleep tracking is something I take seriously. And even I am not planning to pay for it. So take that as you will.

My wife and daughter say I always seem to pause breathing when I sleep and having survived 3 PE’s they thought the ionic would be a good replacement for my Samsung

It has been proven not to be the case!

when i bought bn my ionic more than an year ago it was clearly stated that the blood oxigen sensor works. after more than an year it still doesn't and yet you introduce a "premium" option for functions that should be available to everyone. how is it fair to pay more than 350€ that doesn't fully work as advertised and that you have to pay mothly fees for

Your post is a good explanation and I do understand most of what you wrote BUT why the heck did Fitbit promise the Fitbit 3 would have a working SPO2 sensor? They did it to two other Fitbits it's now 2019 and not an explanation of why! Had I got a job with Fitbit and said I had your knowledge and qualifications and on my first day of starting work I said "NO I DON'T HAVE A HAVE A (expletive removed) CLUE

Thats exactly what FitBit have done to us all 😡 😡😡😡

When will the SPO2  on the Ionic be made active? it has been over 1 year and I'm still waiting for it.

This feature was the only reason I bought the fitbit Ionic.

Don’t hold your breath! The silence is deafening. I think they (Fitbit now Google) are still working out how to implement the SPO2 😂😂

We'd all like to know. That's the reason many of us bought fitbits - the
feature had been a known part of what we thought we were buying long before
you bought yours. Ionic, Versa, Charge 3 all were supposed to have it over
the last couple years.

Now, there is what seems to be a bit more than a rumor that Fitbit on at
least one watch (don't know which) is very slowly rolling out a SPO2
graph. Mind you that seems barely a step above completely useless - we
want to see the O2 reading as we exercise (just like we do heart rate) and
also have it be part of the basic sleep analysis (main reason I bought my
Versa). FYI, if O2 levels are high during sleep, it could be a hint that
one had gotten his or her apnea under control. If low, just the opposite.

What's there to work out? Other makers have already delivered watches with
working SPO2 readouts.

I’m not a doctor or health professional. We all from time to time stop breathing in our sleep but if it’s happening a lot your oxygen levels could drop to a dangerous level. If your concerned see your doctor who can refer you to a sleep clinic as you could be suffering with sleep apnea.

The SP02 on a Fitbit would not be the correct device to check this IMHO

The problem is if you move your arm the reading is good to useless. If your talking about the cheap ones from China that also can give you your blood pressure I would not include them.

knowing the limitations I bought a Fitbit 3 Oct 2018 and I’m still waiting......

I have apnea. And my doctors all agreed that being overweight was the
primary cause. And I've lost a lot of weight since then. O2 readings used
as PART of sleep analysis are a good indication of apnea or lack thereof.
No, they don't replace a full blown sleep study, but they are helpful.

Also, as you work, exercise, etc., if you see a noticeable drop in your O2
it is a good hint to go see a doctor.

These and others are why we bought our fitbits. And some of us are waiting
for a very long time for that to work.

At this point I doubt anything will ever come of it since Google bought them.

Hmm, perhaps I spoke too soon. Endgadget and a couple of other places are reporting some people are getting this.
