I've thought I bought the latest technology but found out that some of the options are limited. To say I'm furious is an understatement. Fitbit Ionic won't allow the user to enter static IP address and specific DNS servers. All my other devices that connect to my router are set to their chosen IP address, no problem. But FitBit? - no chance. How backward is that? I realize that most people just use the default settings by just typing in the router WiFi p/w via the auto DHCP setting. After saying all that, I've got a clever device??? that won't connect to my home WiFi. I've sent FitBit an email and still waiting for their response. If I get a positive result I'll let you all know what the workaround is. Maybe a firmware update is what I can only think of...

It seems that the WiFi on the Ionic is to be used to update the firmware and to download music from your PC. All remaining time it is connected by BT.
this is what I read and understood about this device, by the way I am OK with you, seems not to be connected with the latest system existing...

I received a reply from FitBit and their answer was that they don't support static IP addresses, and with no support in the near future. That is so frustrating when I've got so many other devices in my house connected to my router with separate addresses.
You see, my main aim was to download music on to the Iconic. Once I downloaded the app for my PC, it required only the router p/w and all would be ok. There was no option to type in a new address.
Anyway, for the purpose of getting some music on the Iconic, I had to reset the router to default settings, then all was good. Of course I then had to put all my former settings back in the router again so all my other devices, such as phones, tablets and laptops could re-connect.
You're right about BT needing phone app to talk to FitBit, but WiFi also required to upload exercise routines to personal FitBit account.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my query. Cheers Colber84 🙂

But once you connect to wi-fi, you should be able to go to your router and assign a specific IP address, so even when using DHCP, the Versa will always get the same IP Address, correct?
