Wildly fluctuating steps after factory reset

The seemingly neverending ionic saga continues.

I did a factory reset today  -- following one support person's instruction. I didn't want to do it, and in fact, waited a few weeks to see if the syncing issues with Strava would resolve itself.  Today I did it, only to talk to another support person, this time via chat, who said I probably needn't have done it.  But I did and it took me almost 6 hours to pair it, update it, and get apps and music loaded again.  All the issues on page 1 of this board happened.

Now.... this evening, my steps have wildly fluctuated.  One minute I look and it shows 69.  Then it syncs to where it should be (about 8600).  Then it goes to 200.  Then back up to 8000's.  Now it's showing 720.  (This has taken place in space of about 2 hours)

And last night sleep stats go back and forth reading:

8 hrs 2 minute:  59 minutes awake

9 hrs 1 minute:  0 minutes awake.

What on earth?

I'm not going to call support or chat again.  I've had enough.  Anyone else get wildly fluctuating steps?  If so, please add.  Fitbit people, please suggest a solution.

All I can say is that is really weird and if it was my Ionic I'd be doing several restarts to see if that helps. If it doesnt I'd turn the watch off (in the Settings App and scroll down to About) and leave it off for a few hours. Absolutely no science behind that suggestion except that it fixed my HR monitor that would not switch off one day. I shut the whole thing down in despair and when I turned it on again it was fixed!

I have done ALL of this....many, many times. hence, why the first guy
told me to do factory reset.

Si... I just woke up, and guess what, apparently at 2 am I went for an 8000
step run.

There was no resolution to this problem.  Support deemed the ionic defective.  They are sending a new one as it's still under warranty.  We'll see how the new one works.  Fingers crossed I dont need to spend half a day getting the new one up and running.
