Hey,
I am curious How many users have an Ionic that has been functioning more than 8 months?
I bought one IONIC upon release. I don't like running with a phone but love my maps. It died 8 months into use. Fitbit replaced it. My replacement is now dead. Replacements don't come with warranties, so I need to either buy a new Ionic or get something else. So I'm trying to see if it is worth trying again. 3rd watch will be a charm? My husband's blaze is going on 4 years with no sync issues. Ionic has always had sync issues.. But sadly the Blaze has no GPS for maps.

Thanks! If I can get it to turn back on, I'll definitely try again. I did a full reset when I removed the emoji watch face last week. Figured a clean slate would help, but it didn't.

It eventually worked after doing a factory reset...and chatting with help here. Doing a battery drain test now. Thanks!

I think this is about Ionics only.
Not sure how Versas are doing because I don't have one. Our family's older Fitbits worked great and forever. I upgraded to Ionic in 2/2018; it passed away in 1/2019 just under warranty, and I am using the replacement. So far so good, although it gives me a huge amount of troubles with updating music and bluetooth text notifications. I get them done, but after a battle.
My q: do you think charging from a laptop USB instead of directly to an outlet might help not burn these out?

Not that I’m happy about having to spend more money on a new device but in a way - I hope you’re right about it being Ionics only. The Ionic forum is seeing more and more posts about Ionics not holding a charge, Ionics bricking, etc. which is why I’m hesitant to go back to an Ionic even though it’s being offered to me at a 40% discount (and I’ve already got 5 additional bands in my collection) compared to a 25% discount on a Versa. Browsing the Versa forum, I don’t see a consistent persistent problem with them yet although the same could have been said for the Ionic a year ago...most of the bricking problems seem to be happening 12-15 months after purchase. To be clear - mine didn’t go dead, the altimeter just fried for some reason (throwing it into a weird reboot cycle) and it no longer counts floors. Still researching other brands at the moment before I make a decision...

Yes, I think they recognized an issue in the design and in lieu of fixing it, they issued a warning to use laptop chargers. I personally believe that they should have just included a charger with an un-removable cable to force people to use it if there really was an issue.

My Ionic just died after 27 months. I got the dreaded red triangle and exclamation mark, which I gather means it's toast. I'm going to try a Versa.

Mine's left button has stopped working after 18 months of use.
It's certainly a pity especially when Ionic 2 isn't yet available

@cat19761980 the Versa is just the Ionic without GPS. I would not expect much of a different experience moving to the Versa. You would likely be better served moving to another manufacturer.

@sfringer @cat19761980 IMHO, it's not a bad idea to move to Versa from Ionic. Versa does look like a more robust revised hardware esp the Versa Lite with only 1 physical button. It may last longer and it's only half of the price. The user experience will look very familiar, it may be a good thing.

I went 3 Blaze before I gave up and Hubby brought me a Ionic. That one died 3 mths in to use. I know easy they are to malfunction so I treat them with kids gloves. Since under warranty it was replaced. 10 mths after that it again is startjng to malfunction. I was told that they only last about 2 yrs. Thinking of leaving Fitbit and purchasing a different brand.

My story is exactly the same. First watch dies just shy of a year and then Fit Bit replaced it and the replacement is now dead as well - both time the screen display is shot - pixelated and black. I have given Fit Bit my money for three different versions of various fitness trackers - not going to do it again, I am looking seriously at the Samsung fitness watch. $300 dollars for a watch that lasts less than a year - Fit Bit missed the mark on this one.

In my case, the Ionic died after 1 year 5 months. Still within the valid warranty (EU) but I didn't care to get a replacement. It didn't meet my expectations from the start and another device wouldn't change that either. Instead, it was a source of frustration rather than any help so I gave up on it.

I actually got a Charge 3 after my Ionic died. I am now considering the Versa 2. It looks interesting enough if GPS isn't required.

Are you serious? There are better built products out there.
See my post / Fitbit's reply on Ionic HR dropping during intense activity....
