pairing an external chest strap to the ionic

hi guys,

I guess the answer is NO

but I was wondering if the Ionic will be able to work with an external chest strap? like a H7 or H10 Polar?

it's a feature that AW is offering since the beginning and when it's time for serious workout or weight lifting the wrist rate technology is still far from being good enough.

Since the Ionic will be able to pair bluetooth earphones I guess it would be technically possible to add a chest strap too, not sure if at Fitbit they will finally be open minded enough to let 3rd part like Polar working on their devices.

anyone of you has this info please? or someone at Fitbit? Just in case the answer is NO, I know I can suggest it as a feature, and in fact it was suggested various time on Blaze thread but still no answer about it, so, please don't tell me to go into that section and suggest it 😛

thanks!

No.

No app support - Fitbit does not provide access to Bluetooth to 3rd party app developers.

Early reviews already reporting Ionic's HR is generally good but still hit or miss.

I'm thinking the answer to your question is a three-parter:

  1. Out of the box my understanding is a chest strap will not be able to be interfaces with.
  2. An SDK can be had for the new Ionic, and it wouldn't surprise me if someone was able to write an interface to say a Polar strap.
  3. Given the new HRM technology, you *may* find the chest strap is redundant/unnecessary; only time will tell on this one.

The more people requesting this feature, hopefuly the faster it will get on our Ionics 😉
