Luxe is tracking too many steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

When I started my walk today, the step count on my Luxe was 403. I walked a marked path posted as 1.1 miles. My husband drove us home (so I was sitting quietly, doing nothing), and when we got home 20 minutes later my step count was 7500 and showing the Hooray display. Any ideas of what to do? I think it counted way too many yesterday also, but am not sure.

@PrairieRose Thanks for stopping by in the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with your Luxe. I understand where your concern is coming from.

By any chance, do you have another Fitbit device linked to your account? Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard. For more information, see Can I use more than one Fitbit device with the same account?

Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

For additional information, see Does the wrist I wear my device on affect the accuracy? and What can I do if my step count seems inaccurate?

If you want to negate the extra steps, see How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

I'm not happy with this answer as I have the same problem. As I have disabilities I was a bit suspicious of how many steps were being tracked compared to my old Polar watch. I did a test where I just jiggled my arms up and down and it added a load of 'steps.' When I walked holding my arms rigid  by my sides up and down (or as best as  I can do), hardly any steps were added. I then stood still in the kitchen while preparing some items that involved arm movements and again, it logged the steps. This is rather ridiculous and I regret buying it now after the initial pleasure I had. Based on this activity, it means should I go out on my mobility scooter, and swing one arm backwards and forwards, it is going to log this as steps! Not happy at all.
