I'm starting a 90 Day Weight Loss Challenge on January 1, 2016.
My goal is to lose 20 pounds. I previously lost 60 pounds from May 2011 through December 2012 and would like to trim down a bit more.
Anyone interested?
Track your starting weight on Day 1 and your ending weight on Day 90. This group will be here to encourage and support each other, while also holding each other accountable. Feel free to share your successes and challenges, along with any helpful tips. You can also ask questions.

Welcome!
You just post your starting weight. and a goal. Then you post periodically with your progress. Most people post weekly, but that's up to you.

So, Friday night was a complete bust calorie-wise. Went out for a drink or two and we ended up not only with appetizers, but coming back to my place for a swim afterwards. That involved picking up more alcohol (coolers, which I don't usually drink) and food (take-out). I'd been out the previous Friday and had kept the calories in check. However, this last Friday I ended up way over for the day. Huge jump on the scale Saturday morning, and even though I know the number wasn't actually real, kept me moving a little more yesterday. I suspect I'll be down a bit more tomorrow, but this week's weigh-in for now:
USW: 407.0
CSW: 360.0 (2/1/16)
PW: 302.8 (7/17/16)
CW: 301.6 (-1.2)
GW: 283 (9/30/16) <-- this is 91 days I think, but simpler
And just for fun, the last 2 weeks trendweight:

Hmmm, seem to have lost the other posters, but for at least another week I'll post here and see if anyone joins back in. I normally post on the weekly weigh-in as well.

So the weight loss is still not going the way I expected it to. I saw 300.2 on Friday morning, but Saturday bounced back up a bit. I know weight loss isn't linear, but I still wonder about the really high burn days (ie. are they accurate). Good decision or bad decision I've decided to cap off the calories at 2500 a day even on higher burn days.
I was thinking about posts where people say they're doing 10,000 steps and not losing weight. I don't usually do 10,000 steps (knees don't really take it, still need to lose more weight before increasing those steps), however, I have 4 days of over 10,000 steps over the last 10 days. Just for fun, a comparison on how many calories burned, and how many active minutes and such.
07/23 10,027 steps 4,127 calories 127 active minutes (5h22m fat burn, 18m cardio, 0m peak)
07/25 10,087 steps 4,222 calories 58 active minutes (4h51m fat burn, 23m cardio, 4m peak)
07/29 10,040 steps 4,624 calories 170 active minutes (7h52m fat burn, 37m cardio, 0m peak)
07/30 10,099 steps 3,972 calories 122 active minutes (4h56m fat burn, 14m cardio, 0m peak
So, more active 10K steps vs less active 10K steps burned 16% more calories. So, how you're doing those steps counts as well.
Anyway, off I go to a probably low activity day. I was doing engineering trials on the production floor on Friday, and lots of stuff yesterday. My back is hurting a bit today, and my knees are feeling the recent up-tick in activity. I've got two more days off and way more stuff to do. In the meantime today can be a laundry day.

@vivalaeriin - it's not my challenge, but welcome. You just post your starting weight, pick a goal weight and then post periodically with your progress.
Anyone who hasn't posted in a while, don't let a little lack of progress stop you from posting. Up or down you should post, as it's not the result of one week that counts... it's overall progress.

So this week was a perfect example of how I lose weight (low of 296.6, high of 298). Actually, it wouldn't have been unusual for the high to be over last Sunday's weigh-in. As my calories burned has increased I've decided to cap my calories in at 2500 for a while. Otherwise I end up eating a thousand calories after dinner just to catch up. Undereating while dieting though is traditionally my problem (lately causing illness), so I will keep an eye on it. Last week my deficit was -1441 a day. Also, yesterday was a super busy day where I ended up having a very heavy take-out meal after I got back from work at 7pm (think 1500 calories included the pre-mixed drink I added to it). Sadly, I'd gone in without any planning and few breaks, so I'd only grabbed 2 protein bars for meals during the day. Also, even though I drank a fair bit of water at work I drank 2 litres of water once I got home to try and balance out the salt from dinner.
I also added my own set of snacks into my desk drawer last week. I've used them a bit, although I was really only in on Thursday/Friday and Friday I was busy and I didn't take anything. I have a very bad all or nothing approach to work (and dieting) sometimes. I sent my coworker home about 4:30/5 (not really sure when) I stayed on to finish up. At this point I'd only had the one protein bar but made myself take another.
Oh, and I posted it in another thread, but this is my stash. The red top containers are a combination of fruits, nuts, trail mixes, crackers, a little junk food, and I keep a single serve pack of hummus in the fridge to go with the crackers. Each of them are only 100 calories, so mix and match when I need something. The pre-packed stuff runs from 80 - 300 calories. I didn't add, but will next week, a couple of packs of beef jerky.

Health Under Stress
High levels of stress can take its toll even on healthy eaters. A steady stream of stress can negate the benefits of even the healthiest diet.
Participants of a study were randomly given either a “healthy” breakfast (made with sunflower oil) or a less-healthy alternative (made with palm oil). On a different day, they ate the other breakfast fare. The day of each meal, the participants answered questions about stressors they had experienced the previous day. Thirty-one women cited one recent stressor at one of the visits; 21 cited a stressor before both visits, and six indicated no stressors prior to either visit.
Researchers drew blood from the women multiple times during each visit to measure two known markers of inflammation — C-reactive protein and serum amyloid A — as well as two cell-adhesion molecules that may predict increased likelihood of arterial plaque buildup.
After controlling for factors like age, abdominal fat, and physical activity, all four harmful blood markers were higher following the meal containing palm oil. For women experiencing stressful days, however, the difference in reduced inflammation levels from the sunflower-oil meal disappeared.
Further studies are necessary to determine how the other meal ingredients, such as refined carbs, may interact with stress to trigger inflammation, but these results suggest that silencing the stress in your life may be more important than we think.
