A Family Divided

Sometimes it feels like I battle for fitness in my home. Anyone else feel that way?

that must be very difficult for you. Its hard enough to talk yourself into doing things that are good for you let alone have to justify your choices to others. Send lots of friend requests and create your support here - we are all in this together. You can join challenges, private message or keep up with the community on the disussion boards. Good luck in your journey- remember you get one body, treat it well. Best, E.

Yes, I feel you @LizaD. It can be a struggle, partcularly if you are not the one in charge of shopping/meal planning at your house. Perhaps you can have a family meeting and discuss all of you eating healthier. Start with small changes. As the family feels better and has more energy, perhaps they will get more on board with more changes. I would also suggest that if you are not the primary cook, you cook some tasty but healthy meals once a week, perhaps. Try to slowly win them over.

Good luck and feel free to come here for support.

I agree with @betpchem. Have a talk with them. My Dh use to come for a walk with me on holidays.

I asked on Christmas and he just was like I dont know. So I just went with out him. I wont be asking on New years either. If he want to come he will just need to tell me he wants to come. I told him this as well. I am not going to sit around and wait to see what he wants to do.

But thats me

Absolutely.  My DH needs to lose some weight too, but just doesn't care.  And it annoys the heck out of me that even though he's more overweight than I am, he has zero health issues, whereas I'm dealing with the high blood pressure.  He basically eats like a 12 year old and does not want to exercise at all.  And what's worse is I can't cook my way out of a paper bag, so he tends to do the cooking, and it is not healthy.  My kids are happy to eat this way.  My middle daughter who is 12 is probably the most healthy of us, not due to what she eats but because she is extremely athletic and physical.  I try to talk my 16 yo into walking with me or DH, and they'd rather just watch Netflix!  My 12 and 5 yo's will at least go outside with me.  LOL!  I'm going to try the suggestion to make one healthy meal a week and gradually try to cook more, but they will probably all hate whatever I make.  ha!

Good idea, @KimShea. Start slow. As you cook, you'll get better at it (I speak from experience here). Start with some simple, healthy recipes. A crock pot is a good way to cook an easy meal.

Perhaps you and your DH could do something physical together, like dancing lessons. He might like that. Go someplace fun with the kids where they have to be active, like a hike or skating.
