ADVICE NEEDED: Caloric Deficit

Hi,

I have been having issues finding a suitable caloric deficit. I previously lost approximately 10 pounds with a deficit of 750-1000. That was when my BMI was classified as overweight. My current BMI is 23.44 and I still have been aiming to stick to a 750-1000 deficit. Is this ok? Some days I feel lightheaded so I don’t think this is a healthy deficit for me anymore. Any help on what a better deficit range would be welcome!

thanks!

If you lose too much and/or try to keep losing for too long, the law of diminishing returns applies. This is probably what happened when you stated in a previous post that:

"i have been struggling with weight loss for the past few weeks as I have a caloric deficit but am still not losing weight. Previously I lost approximately 20 pounds with a deficit between 500-1000 Over the period of 4 months."

At BMI 23.4, there should be no urgency to further lose from the current level. I’d suggest you switch to maintenance for now. You will be in a much better position (metabolically speaking) a few months down the road, if you still want to lose a few more pounds.

Grace,  I wonder if you could consider switching from deficits to just counting calories and eating a number that would support the weight you would like to be.  Why not just multiply the number of pounds you want to weigh by 10.  and eat that may calories,  It will probably be a reasonable number if it is 1200 or more and you are 5' 4" tall or more.  I am  shorter and eat less on a diet for sure, and I don't have as much faith as you seem to have in the way calories and deficits may be counted.  My Fitbit seems to think I rarely burn 1200 calories.   It doesn't seem good or safe for you to be lightheaded.  Maybe consult a doctor if you are taking any medication that might be causing that, like blood pressure pills??
