Adjusting calorie goals post-oophorectomy

I'm 42 but I've had my ovaries removed so I am in complete menopause.  How do I adjust my settings to reflect the fact that my metabolism is probably a lot slower?  Do I just change my age to 62 instead?  Help!

Hi,

I'm guessing at this - but I think that's a good start. You may have to tweak calories or some other factor if you don't start losing weight. I think putting your age higher might help - I haven't looked - can you adjust your age up and down?

I had a similar procedure, but I was already post-menopausal, so I can't exactly say how your own situation is affecting your metabolism.

You may already know this, but your bone mass is affected also. It's very helpful for us ladies to work out with weight-bearing exercises to build up our bones.

I also recommend getting a device that gives you your body composition, not just weight. That way, you can track your muscle mass as well as fat loss. Muscle weighs more, but takes up less space than fat, so the scale could show you a similar weight, but you've lost inches on your body. I think once every 6 weeks for a body comp measurement is the recommended time frame.

   Hope that helps!
