Any diabetics using the FB?

Wondering if there are any diabetics out there who are using the FB and working towards weight loss?  I'm insulin dependent and trying to lose weight but more importantly trying to regain my health and physical strength while balancing everything.  A challenge a day! Love to hear your stories....

I wasn't making fun of any one but the group of people I was with. Sorry. Like my husband who refuses to walk any where and then complains he has to walk up the stairs. And he had a couple heart operations. The doctor told him to walk and do exercises. His first operation was in his 40s. I give up with him.

Sorry .

I met if you walk 20 steps up a flight it only will show on your fitbit you walked 1 flight. Now the exact number of steps I don't know.

I have always been a walker. Kinda slacked off when I had my children and ended up gaining weight. My stupid fault for not taking care of my self. Losing weight in my 60s is slow. Not like when I was 20.

Again I am sorry.

I never saw a post about anything that I was offended about.. No apology needed for me.

I haven't been on here cause I am pretty disallusioned right now. I can be very obcessive and I was really into the exercise and such. Was managing over 10,000 steps and at least 6 miles. Somehow, I managed to twist, wrench, somethin, behind my right knee.. It really hurts.. I have been using ice and staying off of it for 4 days now.. I found some great chair exercises on youtube and have been trying that out. Seems everything still involves leg movement of some sort.

My eating hasn't been great either. Comfort food cause my lip is stuck out.. Hahaha.

I'll get it back.. Just have to heal and not jump in like wonder woman after not exercising for a couple years...

Hi!  I was just wondering if there is a way to change the amount of carbs it says to eat each meal?  I was diagnosed about a year ago and have been in denial - but I have come to my senses!  🙂  Thank you all and God bless you 🙂

Thank you for that advice - I think a walk after every meal would really help

Hi Everyone!

I haven't been here since January but I thought I would pop by and say keep at it!!!! Keep active and lots has changed for me.

I lost 72 lbs and at goal (a couple of pounds under) and I am 2 weeks away from my 1 year diagnosis of T2D anniversary..lol

My Blood pressure and pulse are now in the optimal level and my metformin was cut in half in January so I just take 250mg in the morning and 250mg at night.

Since the reduction of the meds, my sugar has crept up although I am super vigilant and log and track every single day on MFP and I weigh once a week. It's been a challenge to maintain my weigh..so I don't lose more!!! Having enough calories and not increasing the carbs significantly is hard!! I am not a snacker and my calories are around 1500 a day to maintain. I am going to the doctor next week for my checkup and A1C results. A little nervous and hope that my A1C is still in the 5's..the meds were decreased as I had 10 lows before my last A1C...so in order to prevent that he cut the meds because believe it or not, people do get lows with metformin but most people shouldn't be affected.

Anyway, I just finished training Couch to 5K yesterday but will keep practicing till May when I am  signed up for a 5K in our race weekend 🙂 I joined a gym and swim twice weekly, do Tai Chi and strength training in the pool twice and week...running 3 times a week hahah I don't have an athletic bone in my body and I am shocked to be able to do this. You are never to old to start something so dream big!!! I turned 62 in January. Now I wear a size 8 pants and a medium top..not teeny tiny but absolutely fine and my doctor told me to keep my weight as he thought it was fantastic. I just wanted to share my success story (so far) with you guys and I rack up those steps (sometimes I can't get all my steps because I am swimming haha) but keep fighting and kick diabetes to the curb!! We can all do this!! Feeling very proud and very happy no matter what the outcome of the A1C is next week. I noticed it's about a point higher in every instance. My usual fasting is about 88-92 or 4.9-5.2 for Canucks.(I am one) I will try and comment and post more...life gets busy you know? Cheers to all!

Keep up the good work, @FrenchieMama!  I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in April of 1992, and went through a lot of rough times between then and now. But, due to the dedication & cooperation with my Internist in changing my lifestyle, which included losing weight, increasing exercise, and total change in diet, mid-last year I was changed from Diabetic to pre-Diabetic.  My A1C has been 5.7 or below for 3 consecutive 6-month tests. So, both me and my doctor are happy with the progress!

I just bought my FB yesterday. I was diagnosed with Diabetes back in July of 2015 while I was in the hospital having a heart attack and stents put in.

At that time I weighed 250...after cutting back on my carbs drastically, I am now at 181 pounds, and would like to at least maintain this weight, if not lose another 10 or 11 pounds...so it will be nice to see how active I currently am, and then add a little bit to that to try to drop the rest of this weight....

I definitely would love to have some diabetic friends here on FB...so if anyone wants to add me, I'd appreciate it....

Excellent!! Are you on Myfitnesspal? I am very active there because that's how I log my food and have my Fitbit synced to it.
I am on maintenance now too and my food diary is public. Over there I am JaneKnoll1.

I was recently diagnosed diabetic in a family of diabetics. The dr put me on the wheat Belly diet and focus on low glycemic load (foods that don't spike sugar). I eliminated all the GMO wheat and in 10 weeks lost 15 lbs. that's a lot for me. 134 down to 119. Also was re tested and my A1C dropped to pre diabetic and all my cholesterol and triglycerides are now normal!!!

You need to use a low Glycemic load diet. In Apple apps look for the LOW GI app. I used it for 8 weeks and figured out what had to go and between that and Wheat Belly book I am NOT going on insulin or metaformin

I wish this app had the Glycemic Index and corresponding Glycemic Load. It would greatly help people peel off the weight fast.

I've been a type 2 for maybe 10 years. My daughter & I recently got new fitbits & are becoming very competitive. I have now lost 20 lbs & my A1C is 5.4! We do a dancing walk when we have to do the 250 steps. we almost never miss them because it is fun. It has been a lot of fun & we are losing weight.

That is great, @chev922!   Since getting my Fitbit, and starting a regular exercise program in addition to diet changes, I have been reclassified from Type 2 Diabetic to Pre-Diabetic.  Keep on Stepping!
