Wondering if there are any diabetics out there who are using the FB and working towards weight loss? I'm insulin dependent and trying to lose weight but more importantly trying to regain my health and physical strength while balancing everything. A challenge a day! Love to hear your stories....

Hi...This is Max (ine) ...I am interested in the discussion about type 1 diabetes and fitbit...and weight loss. I have been diabetic for 54 years and have a pump ( medtronic) and the new CGM. I love my fitbit and it helps a lot with keeping my bloodsugars reasonable...I tend to run low rather than high. My goal is to lose 10 punds and stabilize my blood sugars. I am at a point with the disease that I lack sensitivity to low BS. I can be 50 and not know I am running low. I appreciate the suggestion of dialing down on the basal an hour in advance and will try that starting tomorrow. i exercise 5-6 times a week for an hour and the days I miss are when I run the highest.
Can anyone make suggestions for how to lose weight with Type 1...how are others managing exercise lows and rebound highs? I appreciate having a place to talk about this...I find using the fitbit scale really helpful.
Laura...how did you lose the weight? What is your exercise routine? How are you eating? Glad you are all out there...it is good to connect...Max

Hi Ellie,
I was diagnosed on 5/1/14 and have been working hard to bring my A1c from 6.6 to 6.0 a couple of weeks ago. The most difficult part for me has been finding out how differently we all react to things. Hopefully your doctor will help you come up with a good plan. If you want to be more aggressive then keep asking those who "have gone before you". I've gotten some great advice from this board and lots of research. Here's to our improved health!

Just an update. I had my three month blood work done and the news is good. A1C down frm 7.8 to 5.7 (anything below 5.7 is considered normal). Weight reduction of 54 pounds total since April.
I did manage to lose my Flex on an international flight. I had just replaced the wristband and had a couple of other issues prior to the flight. It's just not a good design. That said, however, my "oh no" moment wasn't the fact that I'd lost a $100 device, but that I lost the device that helps keep me informed better than anything I've ever used in the past. So, did a bit of research and the first place I stopped when I got to my destination was Meijer's where I bought a replacement Fitibit, but I went with the Fitbit One. Other than the fact that the One is not waterproof (it is splashproof), I like it better than the Flex. The wristband for the sleep monitoring is a great feature and the rest of the time, the One stays securely in my pocket! I also like the fact that the One monitors floors climbed and also provides a time display.

Not sure who your question is directed to, but I have a question: Are you Type 1 or Type 2? It can make a difference in how you adjust your routine, and there are challenges that a Type 1 has that Type 2s don't have.

I am type 2 diabetes and I refuse to use drugs I discovered Glucerena for Diabetes to help control your A1c and to use to help me lose weight. It can be used a a meal or a snack during the day. Really good for travel or taking with you when you are out shopping. I buy it by the case and keep it in the refrigator.
