Any diabetics using the FB?

Wondering if there are any diabetics out there who are using the FB and working towards weight loss?  I'm insulin dependent and trying to lose weight but more importantly trying to regain my health and physical strength while balancing everything.  A challenge a day! Love to hear your stories....

I have always loved rice, but now I have to forgo it.  The only time I have rice is when I make stuffed cabbage or stuffed peppers, and that is just a very small amount of brown rice.  I look at rice now and I just know what it's going to do to my blood sugar and I pass on it.  It's not worth it.  You do what you have to do.

I was told to stay away from Oxalate foods and there wasn't much left. Rice was one of them I could have. :)Now the doctor say I don't have a Kidney stone so things are better.

On the subject of eating Rice I think some context is needed. You can
eat rice. You just can't eat the whole box. Or eating rice 3 times a
day. Brown rice won't spike your BS as bad as White Rice. One
technique I've used is to create veggie skillets using just 1.5-2 cups
Br rice that will serve 3-4 people. Add some leftover or fresh lean
proteins to the mix and you have a healthy little meal.

If that little rice still affects your BS then maybe a nice 30-45 minute
walk after the meal would assist you in reducing the spike.

My concerns for rice is where it comes from and how many heavy metals
are present. Google that sometime....

Holy cow Daywalker,

What an incredible effort and success you have charted. Have you had a recent A1c ? Have you had to reduce your medication for diabetes yet?

Thanks for sharing good news,

Way to go sinch. I avoid rice too. Forbidden rice, black rice, I think is lowest in carbs but that is 43 carbs for 1/3 cup and it has fiber and is whole grain. 43 carbs is a lot for just one part of a meal. No sense to send the BG up when I can eat another cup of healthier low starch veggies and remain full for longer.

I too am diabetic 20+ years. Fitbit user since 2011. I started back walking in April and down 20 lbs (5-7 miles each day). I started riding my indoor bike this week, 30 minutes a day. Hoping to lower my A1C and lose 34 more pounds by December.

LaQuita welcome,

Sounds like a good exercise program. Are you making any changes in your carb or sugar intake? Do you have a weight loss goal or a A1c goal yet?  That 20 lb loss is great in a short time too.

All the best to you on this healthy journey,

Barb

Hi everyone! Diagnosed 25 yrs ago as a T2 Diabetic, have had some good days and not so good in controlling this disease. Decided to get a fitbit to hold me accountable, some days it works somes days it doesn't. Hoping to stay motivated I have a darling 2yr old grand daughter that I want to see grow up.

Hi vw,

You absolutely can do this. The side effects of D2 stink and can steal your eyesight, kidney function, bring on dementia, heart disease and stroke at a higher rate than if you are in control of your BG.  Check out drfuhrman.com.  Make everyday a good day. You have the power to eat non starchy veggies, raw and lightly cooked, beans and lean protein. You can bring your A1c down within 3 months if you make wise food choices. Your 2 yr old grand daughter needs you. Set a reasonable goal for weight loss and dancing, walk or swim yourself to health. Test everyday, keep track and come post here. We will support you in chosing health.

@vwilkins513  We are here to help and cheer eachother on.  Although I am not a fruhman fan, if it works for you, then it is a good thing.  There are lots of choices out there.  If you look at some of my other posts you know I am a great fan of finding that balance.  Keep fighting the good fight.  If you want a walking challenge, I'm up for it just let me know.  If you need advice we will all be glad to help.  That grandbaby wants you to come to her wedding some day!

Happy Day everyone

Wow it is hot so many places so hopefully everyone is finding air conditioned places to walk, run and dance in. Stay hydrated.

How are you all doing in the summer heat? I tend to lose my appetite in the heat which helps with weight loss.

Hi Barb, Hot days make it hard to do anything, esp walk. I don't eat as
much either. Push fluids and still I get headaches in the heat. Dispite all
that, numbers are high these days. Due for another A1C

Barb -- It is definatly hot here in Montana as well, but unfortunately I don’t seem to lose my appetite. But walking 5 miles plus every morning (while its still cool) could have something to do with it.

Don’t get down with your Daily Sugars, focus on the A1C and find a cool place to walk. We have a walking group at 7:00 in the morning that walks the local mall until it opens at 10:00. It’s air conditioned, provides company and it all flat so it works well for consistent exercise. You might see if you neighborhood mall has one. I think most of them do.
