Wondering if there are any diabetics out there who are using the FB and working towards weight loss? I'm insulin dependent and trying to lose weight but more importantly trying to regain my health and physical strength while balancing everything. A challenge a day! Love to hear your stories....

I am so sorry you are going through this! I really do suggest you see a specialist. Even though high blood sugars are not healthy and can lead to long term dammage, low blood sugars are equally as dangerous and their issues are more accute. Please see a specialist. Just so you know, if I eat lots of carbs, my blood sugar will bottom out later in the day or the next day too. It's because our bodies have trouble controlling the amount of insulin they release and when they release it. To help combat this, I exercise moderately; not intensly. I walk rather than run. I don't know if you can do that, but if you can, try it. Please take care. And keep in touch!
A blood glucose level of 30 is very serious indeed. That level can cause death! Please be very careful!

@dancefoxtrot I know you mean well but, I don't want to get into this conversation again. My sister was not overweight. Genetically speaking, all the children (me, sister and brother) are predisposed to type 2 diabetes. My dad and both sets of grandparents had it. So it was bound to happen. Diabetes is not caused by being overweight. Being overweight is a symptom of the early stages of the disease. Please let's not argue this point. You have your well researched opnion and I have my well researched opnion and I am willing to let you keep yours if you let me keep mine.
Thanks!

@Elendili I too was slim and fit when I developed T2 - I gained weight subsequently. The cause and the effect are often seen in reverse but I know what my body did. The weight gain didn't cause the diabetes. The diabetes caused the weight gain. If I can find a photo of me when I was diagnosed you'll understand why this is a sore point with me too.

Good Morning... yes! my specialist are on speed dial...LOL
I have been back and forth with what to eat, what not to eat... in what combinations and so on and so forth.... I am on a strict diet by my choice... no red meat... no fried foods... lots of veggies, grilled fish, chicken, limited pork, and smoked turkey breast..... and whole grain pasta's...limited protein ready to drink meals, they tend to make my levels drop quicker if not combo with the right carbs.... Running is a new passion of mine; since my children are grown and have moved out. I walk with my husband, but run with a group...
I would not say that I am a expert in the field of highs and lows, but i will share what i have experienced in hopes that it will help the next person. Thank you for your comments...
Sometimes you really can't give advice, if you have never experiened a persons direct siituation... Everyone is different... we don't fall in the same box....
Take care and keep me posted... Best wishes and luck...

So i guess my question is.... the one thing left to get in control is with heavy exercise, my levels drop quickly... the next day and is hard to keep up... any advice?Best Regards,
Jenn
Since you asked the question, I will recommend that you switch to moderate exercise until your doctors are able to get this under better control. Running is good, but not if it's going to cause BG to drop to 30. Apparently carb loading before running isn't helping, or you wouldn't be here asking the question. I hope you are able to get improvement soon.

There are opportunities on the internet to buy glucometers and strips. Figure out what you want and send for it.
Basically eat lots of veggies, the non-starchy kind, whole fruit, and lean protein including beans. Kick the sugar and refined carbs, beers, liquor, sodas and juice into the waste bin and you will be healthier, lose weight and have better numbers.
All the best wishes,
Barbara G
I got my blood glucose meter today and am so excited to have it. First test gives me a result of 5.2mmol/L before dinner.

Thanks for the advice... and that's just what it is advice... i have professionals that i go to for all my health issues... i don't use this site for a diagnoses... just to see if others are going thru the same thing...I refuse to give up of exercise for a minor set back... Low Blood Sugar will not dictate my future... I will.
Best of luck to you on your journey...

@WillowTheWhisp I am so glad you have your meter. Now you can get a better view of your blood sugars! You said your blood sugar was 5.2mmol/L. Is that high? In the states we use mg/dl and for me a good fasting level is 90 mg/dl.

@CNBzMAMA I am so glad you have specialists to work with. Sometimes advice can be misleading. Even when it is well intentioned. And we all want to help each other! That's why we're here!

5.2 is pretty good. It's about 93.5 mg/dl, a little higher than your 90 mg/dl, but now I can get a better idea of how my weight loss and excercise is affecting my blood glucose.

Barb, I watch a lot of PBS, especially the medical shows. After googling and reading about Dr Hyman I turned on PBS and there he was! It was the show about the 10 day detox. I had seen it in the past, but didn't pay attention to the name. When I was diagnosed with Type2 I went to the library and checked out almost every book they had on diabetes, as I was given no information at my diagnosis. I will look for it the next time I'm there, although I may have already read it. I try to read all the information I can get about diabetes. That's why I like diabetes forums so much. Hearing from people who actually have the disease is very helpful. You can never get too much information IMO.

I'm sorry for giving advice that wasn't wanted. Your first post didn't say that you wondered if others were going through this, just stated the problem and asked for advice. Now I understand.

Just read your response. Thanks for clarifying. I understand that you are part of a small group who are slim when they are diagnosed with T2 Diabetes. Sounds like lots of genetic influence from both parents genes.
No argument here.
All the best,

Congrats on the meter and the normal 5.2 or 93. You are doing a lot right if your fasting bg is in the 75-100 range. Knowledge is sooo important to take charge of our own health. Wishing you sucess in meeting all your goals.
Best regards,
Barbara

Glad that you have the help you need. I too thought you were asking for our ideas. Didn't mean to annoy you. Thought it might be helpful for you to look at your meds. as often they need to change with the exercise and dietary changes. Only ideas not medical advice.
All the best with those lows and highs,
Barbara

@dancefoxtrot I so agree with you about knowledge! It is why I read and post here! If we all share what we know and learn from what others tell us we will live smarter and healthier and I am all for that! I would be thrilled to live to be 93!

There are days I cannot stand to be in this body. In my time using the fitbit, I have had good days and bad days. Weight down, weight UP. Days of walking those extra 2000 steps to get to 10,000 and days I sit on my arse. Disciplined eating days with good BS management, horrible "I don't give a ____" days when my BS level has been high enough to be mistaken for a drone over an airport.
Last night we were packing for vacation. I tried on a few pairs of nicer looking shorts (we're heading for Florida) and they were too small to close at the waist. So I put them back in the drawer and went searching for my "fat shorts." (Does anyone else in this world have "skinny clothes" and "fat clothes"?) And then I realized to my horror that the ones I had just put back in the drawer WERE my fat shorts......... So now not only do I have to wear jeans in Florida in August, I will have to come up with an explanation as to WHY. Maybe I can go shopping when we arrive.
But as soon as we get back from vacation, I HAVE TO GET ON THE STICK and lose weight! If not for the sake of my wardrobe, then for the sake of avoiding the conversation with my endo in December when I go back.
That is, unless someone out there is will to trade bodies for a while. This one doesn't quite fit me any more.
