Hey guys,
Im training for a work specific goal and every time i run, i get a lot of tightness in my calves. and was wondering if anyone knew of any solutions in releiving the pain while running.
They feel like they are burning and could burst if i were to continue. i stretch a little bit but i feel like to continue i need to stop every 10 minutes just to get anything done. I have heard compression sleeves my help. what do you all think.
anything helps.
Plus if you have any cardio tips, i would appreciate it?

I would listen to your calves. I think you will gain endurance over time. Stretch them every time you exercise. Eat protein and drink water after exercise.

Taking a longer shower / bath daily can help release the tension. Rest more, don't run for a while, allow your body to recover, doing some lighter activity such as normal / slower walking until feeling better & listen to your precious body when needing more rest.

stretching is really important. not a little- but very well. it also depends what the pain is from- is it really a pain or a cramp? and are you new to running? it all plays a factor in determining what the pain is really telling you. You may consider doing some strength training for your legs. eating a banana before working out. drinking enough during your run to help oxygenate your muscles. roll your legs when you are done to push the extra acid out. as far as cardio assistance- more details please. what are you specifically looking for?

Check the link in this post for a joint- and knee-friendly cardio alternative to the treadmill. It would be friendly for the calves as well.

What is your history with regard to exercising? Were you mostly sedentary so far, and you started to run straight away? After years of being sedentary (and slightly overweight), it took me about 4 months before I "graduated" from walking / brisk walking to jogging / (gently) running. By the time I started to run, I was no longer overweight, but I still got painful shins. My advice would be to take it easy and start with brisk walking, only introducing short bouts of jogging in the beginning.

I have been active all my life. but also overweight my entire life. I can run for about 15 minutes. I have always been able to jog/walk quickly my entire life. I just need to make a time specific goal and lost 100 pounds.
