Calories In vs Calories Out on Food Log

ANSWERED

This section frustrates me.

I'm rarely in the green "goal zone" on the Calories In vs. Out graph. I'm usually yellow, with a red day here and there (when I eat more candy than I should). I guess I need to eat more calories, but I feel like I eat enough. I don't want to go over 1,500 a day, but Fitbit wants me to. 😞

I'm 50, 5'9", and currently weigh 206. I joined the Y in October, began watching my sugar intake around the same time, and I bought my FB as a 50th BD present in mid-November.

On the day I got my FB, I weighed 213.9, so I've lost 7 pounds since I got my FB.  I haven't really been active at the Y since right after Thanksgiving, but I've been pretty active since I got my FB, always meeting/exceeding my daily goals - except for this section.

The scale seems to move at a snail's pace, but I can "see" the changes and feel them in my clothing, so that makes me happy. I wonder, though, if I would see better results if I were in the green more often in this section. To that end, I have two questions for y'all:

  1. How often are you in the green in this section?
  2. How much weight per week are you losing?

My advice? Don't worry about that thing. It will only show you in the green zone if your in and out calories goal are within 50 of each other. How often during the day is that the case? Not when you first get up in the morning. Then you will have been burning since midnight with no intake. Not just after breakfast or any other meal, probably. Then you should have eaten enough to keep you satisfied and fuel your activities for the next couple hours. About the only time you should be in the green is just before the system resets at midnight and a couple times a day for a little while between meals.

Hope this helps and good luck

I also am having a hard time understanding this on my dashboard.  Mine is in the over range but the calories in is less than calories burned so in my thinking this is what I want to lose weight. I have looked and looked on the discussions but havent really found an answer.

Happy to help. If you haven't read the manual for your device yet, you can find it at the bottom of your dashboard. There is a section called "Device Help" with the various Fitbit devices listed, click on the appropriate device and you will be taken to a page where you can access the manual for the devoce and/or an introduction called 101, as in "One 101" or "Flex 101"  for the One or Flex respectively.

Good luck

Haha, that does help. I get told I've nailed it when I still have a few calories to eat and it says I'm in the red.

I am never in the green zone, almost always under and lose about 4lb a week. I eat when I'm hungry and log everything. I don't force myself to eat though because it seems silly to do that.

Resistance training 3 times a week, indoor rowing machine about 3 times a week (although it's been in the shop for an upgrade for the past week 😞 ), and ~10k steps per day make my calories burned a good deal higher than my calories eaten. My strength is increasing and my waist is shrinking slowly so it seems like I'm on track. Once I get to the stage where I'm no longer improving with my strength training or rowing I will consider eating more but for now I will carry on as I am.

I'm under all five days a week. I don't need to eat extras knowing I'm 75% sedentary. Worked for me to lose 4 pounds this week.
