Changing set goals

ANSWERED

Has anyone else come up with a similar idea?

I have a LOT of weight to lose. I recently lost about 75 pounds, was approaching my goal and then hit a plateau, backslid, and ended-up putting back on almost all the initial loss. I am re-starting my programme and trying to do it right this time.

But if I set my actual target goal for my weight in fitbit it looks depressingly far away.

I am thinking of setting my goal to the first milestone along the route (10% of my starting weight seems reasonable) and then update it to a new milestone once I have reached that goal.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Hey Don!

This is EXACTLY what I do and have been doing. I find it a lot easier to stay motivated when I don't have a giant number staring back at me. Plus it allows me to really take a moment and celebrate my progress before moving on to my next goal.

Best of luck to you!

I read somewhere that dieters were more successful when they set goals that they can visualize as a happy weight. The more they can visualize all the benefits of their success as something really motivating the more likely they are to be successful. A goal weight were you are what you consider thin and healthy could provide motivation.

I do think setting an intermediate milestone with rewards is a great idea.

Yeah, that was precisely the thought I had.

I think, even though it is nowhere NEAR my actual Goal Weight, I am going
to set it to 10% and then move it after I have reached that number and am
ready to move.

Yeah, at the risk of using an inapt metaphor,

Q: How does one eat an elephant?
A: One bite at a time!

It is too bad there is no way to have more than one weight goal
simultaneously, I know that is what the Badges are for, but I like look of
converging lines on a chart! I did this on the progress chart I kept in
excel... but quit keeping that-up when I started using fitbit.

I may have to accept that there is no actual way to do it and accept the
workaround that I've already come-up with.

Have a great day!

I did that! It was too depressing to look at all the weight I had to lose. One pound at a time!! I also downloaded the app happy scale. It sets multiple milestones for you. Kind of a fun way to help keep motivate you.

feel free to add me as a fitbit friend (:

Looked for that, app - I am an android user... looks cool, though.

I've just put together a spreadsheet and planned out a set of five goals
dividing the marathon into a set of sprints.

Thanks for the answer!

I like small goals. I use an image of a 5 gallon tub of lard as my motivator. (It is approximaely 36 pounds).
I also use a web tracker called "The Hacker's Diet: Weight and hair loss through stress and malnutrition" The chart is very useful and helps smooth out the daily fluxuations and shows your trend.
