Discouraged

I'm going to tell you the very same thing other say all the time...I do what I am suppose to but I can't seem to loose the weight. Let me tell you as much as I can and if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I have had the fitbit for two weeks now and it was something that gave me a little hope maybe I could try again. I have had a weight problem all my life...was very chubby as a child and the summer of 8th grade I spent it down in SC and decided I was only going to eat once a day...I hate a hot dog...LOL...I came home a skinny and my life was changed. It's amazing how all of a sudden people are your friends. I managed with hard work to maintain my weight even after two children. I was 106 pounds after two children. It all started when I gave up smoking. With each attempt I put on about 10 pounds over the course of 10 years. I am now 167 at 4"11 and 54 years old. I tried all the diets and none worked more than 3-5 pounds and it took me months to loose that. Here is my medical history...had thyroid checked several times I think doctors always suspected an issue but it always came back normal. Most of my life I have had a blood sugar problem hypoglycemia but now I am considered a diabetic and take metformin(which the dr said and it should help you lose a little weight). NOT!! The blood sugar issues has always caused me problem because I needed to eat often or my sugar would drop. I will say for the most part it stopped me from eating a lot of sugar through the years. The most frustrating thing I could not understand was I would try to work out to burn calories but my body needed me to feed it to prevent the blood sugar lows so I felt It was defeating the purpose. I would eat 300 calories to burn 300 calories, and then I would be still so tired. About a year ago I had a bout of vertigo that just would not go away...finally found a specialist that was able to help me but it requires I take Lorazapam twice a day. He said for some reason they find this drug shuts down the balance system. I have to be on it for two years if not for life. At first I loved that it stopped my dizziness and had a nice calming effect but I could no longer return the gym because the machines I used still cause to much movement and I would get dizzy. I'm an all or nothing personality...so please don't ask if I measured or counted right Smiley Frustrated Prior to the fitbit I tired Nutrisystem and that has all the calculating done for you. After 3 months of that I did lose 6 pounds, but I could no longer eat that food and the cost was not worth it. I try to keep carbs low and been counting my calories. It upsets me to no end to see people start a diet and after two weeks they lose 8-10 pounds. Did I mention I have no patience any more...after two weeks of trying hard I get frustrated and give up....the only thing that I can figure out is maybe I'm not eating enough but I don't buy that...I know my husband looks at me because I eat breakfast lunch and diner because I pretty much have to. Just once I wish he would feel whats its like to have a blood sugar of 55-60...its very scary and no fun...once you stabilize it you feel like you been run over by a train! I will always be active like I have all my life because if nothing else I'm a firm fat...lol...thanks for listening.

Hi Jillo,

Sounds like you have to keep allot of balls in the air.  The average person would not know how it feels to have to work so hard at just feeling well.

You said you enjoy being active, so go with that, and dont worry so much about the numbers.  If you are active and focus on feeling well, it should eventually fall into place for you.  Try to enjoy..... 🙂

I am sorry that you suffer from hypoglycemia. You are right about it being scary when it shows up! I have a mild case of it myself. It mostly showed up when I was heavier (pregnant). My daughter has it also. Have you heard eating 6 small meals a day is the healthiest way to eat for blood sugar management? Do you eat this way now? How much water in ounces are you drinking? How much restful sleep are you getting? What is your stress level on a range of 1-10? 10 being extremely high. How many days are you exercising? For how long? I would love to help you feel and look better. I have helped hundreds of people with their weight including Type 2 diabetics and low thyroid. I am a Certified Health Practioner.

Hi CoachCheri,

Thnks for the response..I will try to answer all your questions and would love it if you could help.

Since I was told at 18 I was border line diabetic I have always educated myself on diabetes since its run rampant in my family. So yes the 6 small meals a day..and I never go any where without a tablet of some kind of food for emergencies. Its embarassing if I have to inquire ahead of time about the ood situation at a social event. I've had friends joke and say it's always about food with you. For someone thin that might not hurt so bad...

My water is usally around 48 oz or more. I will say salt is my weakness so I try to consume alot of water to help off set that. (I do retain water so if I could just give up salt that would remove about 5 pounds) I crave it like people crave sugar...any idea if that could be a difficiency of some sort?

I usually slept very poor until Dr put me on the Larazapam for my virtigo and now I sleep 8-10 hours sometimes...I have to say it feels great to sleep past 5am.

Stress levels are better than in the past...I quit my previous job due to stress...I'm a natural worry wort..If I don;t have something to worry about I create something...I don't know how to stop it. At times they can be a 10...on a good day maybe 3

Exercise I try to do something every day...I walk depending on energy level 1-4 miles...do floor exercises toning that sort of thing. I think there was only 6 months in my life where I said F#$% it and did not exercise..it was like I was going on strike..haha...funny thing is I did lose few pounds but it was probably muscle. Otherwise exercise has been like brushing my teeth just something I have to do.

When I went on the nutrisystem I felt like the food was more salt than my body can take.

I eat a lot of grilled veggies and fruit...with a lower carb diet.

any suggestions would be great!

I too have hypoglycemia.  It is one thing I'm left with after having gastric bypass surgery and yes it is awful when your sugar drops and you just start eating anything and everything to get it back to normal.  Then as you stated, you feel like you've been run over by a truck.  Very frustrating.  But because of that, I try to make sure I eat every 2-3 hours.  I'm sorry I don't remember the brand, but one of my doctors (The Healing Space) had a protein powder that I tried and it was great.  I was worried about trying it because it seemed like the sugar content was too high, but she assured me this was made for diabetics and the purpose was to control your blood sugar.  So I tried it and it was great!  You might try to find a good protein shake that you like and is good for your health issues and then have it as a snack.  Also make sure you have some protein with each snack such as an apple with string cheese or almonds, veggies with avacado, etc.  Well, I hope I haven't told you everything you already knew.  Best wishes to you and your health!
