February 2017 Step Goal Challenge.

ANSWERED

How It Works:

The purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for February, 2017. This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency . So whether you do 100,1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 28 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.

Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day

Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format

1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.

2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 28.

Optional

3) Post either your constant or variable calories burned goal.

4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 28.

Injury Notice

If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Thursday update:

Steps: 10,552/10,000

Burn: only 2458/2600 😞

So:

Step: 2/28

Burn: 1/28 😞

Hoping not to miss my burn again today. The new medication I'm on makes me REALLY tired (literally had to take a nap to get through the workday yesterday, hence no workout, hence missed burn), and I have the kids all home from school today for a teachers' workday, but I'm really going to try to get a workout in this afternoon and make sure I get my goals met! Wish me luck!

Only got 9630 in steps yesterday. Calories burned 2411. My boss has been sick and I woke up yesterday morning with what he has. Little better today so will see if I pass what I did yesterday.

Having a lot of trouble getting my watch to sync with my phone! This is a replacement for my first Charge HR which had the same problem.  I have a normal Samsun smart phone. Had to reset the watch 4 times yesterday morning before it would sync, and tried to sync just now and it would not. It did sync fine for about 4 days in a row earlier this week.

Anyone have suggestions? Is there a special time in the moring when it will sync? They told me not to use the "all day sync" to avoid battery rundowns. Although they did send the replacement, they seem absolutely clueless as to why this is happening.

Well, after 3 resets it synced.

I've never done a Fitbit challenge before. I set my personal goal of averaging 10,000 steps a day this month knowing my weekends are usually lower. So for this community challenge, I will apparently be the first to set a variable goal.

10,000 M-F

8,000 S-S

So far:

Monday: 10,105

Tuesday: 10,562

Yesterday I fell short (6,699) because it was so cold and I didn't take the time to go to the clubhouse gym to walk on the treadmill.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

I'm really not doing great this month. I may drop my target calorie burn rate to 2400. With my spouse being home more and more and the kids being home a lot, too, it's really hard to find time to workout. And my weight loss is slowing down, even though I'm not eating anything different. Getting discouraged, but trying to soldier on and add more activity.

Friday:

Steps (10,000): 11,761

Calories (2600): 2513 😞

So far this month:

Steps: 3/28 🙂

Burn: 1/3 😞

Just a couple tips for setting burn goals.

a) Setting your burn goal based off what someone else has theirs set to is like comparing apples and oranges. Someone heavier might burn 2,500 calories lying in bed all day whereas a smaller person might burn the same 2,500 calories from moving around all day.

b) Figure out what your floor burn is. I find mine by looking at my dashboard>detail breakdown of daily burn and look how many calories i burn per 15 minute block when i am not wearing my fitibit.. So for calculating mine, I burn 25 calories per 15 minutes if I dont have the fitbit on so 25x4 = 100 per hour. Then multiply 100 x 24 hours  = 2,400 calories is my floor.

c) Figure out roughly what your ceiling is. Think back to a day where you are bouncing around, super busy, working out a ton. For me my ceiling is around 5,000 calories.

d) So out of my range (2,400 to 5,000) I have set mine to 4,000. Try picking a number you think will work. If you are constantly hitting your step goal but are missing the burn goal then try dropping it down a tad or vice versa.

e) You can use your floor calories burned per hour rate (mine is 100 per hour) to see whether or not you will hit your goald for the day. So if im thinking of going to bed at 10pm, I know I need to get my burned calories to 3,800 before I crash.

Good luck everyone.
