I am gaining weight instead of losing. I have logged all of my food and have been exercising regularly. I am starting to get frustrated with my results the more I work the more I seem to gain. The last three weeks I have gone to the gym four times a week and ate below my calories and I still gained weight. I don't understand ... I tried to tell myself it was muscle but there has to come a point when you lose right?? Any suggests or ideas?

@dottiemayRead this post by Colinm39, who had the same problem and is now on the road to success.

You are correct - you are NOT gaining muscle, not a chance for 3 weeks.
You don't mention what the exercise is.
Did you start doing the exercise when you started logging everything?
You will gain water weight from the exercise. Your body wants to store more carbs which attaches with water in the muscle. Depending on what you do, water is retained in muscle for repair.
You must first weigh on valid weigh-in day to minimize those effects.
Morning after rest day eating normal sodium levels, not sore from prior workout.
Have you used valid weigh-in days? If you started with false water weight loss, then body getting back to normal would appear as gain. Now add on false water weight gain, and you have bigger increase.
Now, outside that, how are you logging food?
Are you weighing everything you eat, measuring only liquids?
Because calories are based on weight, not volume. Weigh the packages if you eat the whole thing, weigh your serving for sure, do the math.
How far below Fitbit TDEE are you eating at, what meal plan and loss amount did you choose and what is that calorie level then?

Hello Dottie,
I feel your frustrations. I used to go the gym and I used to feel the change in more the skin versus the weigh loss. I felt the gym was jynxing me or something. I also tried watching calories but then the calorie count always seemed like okay so I eat one piece of cheese and I am done for the day? Other diets get rid of what I like to eat etc. I know this has nothing to do with fit bit but hear me out hear.
Do you have a wii, playstation or maybe even Xbox?
This may sound silly but it is amazing I got to eat 1500 a day and only had to do 30 min minumum. I played the workout program Fit in six on my playstation 3. Within a month I went from 210 ish down to 196.3 I was so proud of myself. and that was still within the 1500 calorie limit eating potato chips and hot dogs. Try it if you have the space. It it a lot cheaper than the gym like $5 and it yields results. no equipment needed just you and it tailors to your bodies needs. If I could do it I would but I have 3 feet of space right now during spring cleaning. once thats done though I am getting back into it. Hope this helps.

Hi Dottie,
I understand how frustraiting it must be to work hard and feel like it just isn't working. Many people feel like their bodies will betray them when they follow all the rules and do what they are supposed to do. These feelings lead to despair.
So, lets try to identify the problem. First, I doubt that you gained muscle. It is unlikely in 3 weeks.
Here are some things to look at: First, are you weighing yourself too often? Are you watching your sodium intake? Are you absolutely certain that you know how many calories you should be eating every day? Do you know how many calories your body burns at a resting state?
Here are some online calculators you could try:
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm <---- How many calories to eat every day
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ <-----BMR calculator
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/nutrient_calculator.htm <----Macro calculator
Feel free to send me a private message here on fitbit. I will help you workout a good nutrition and exercise plan. One thing you may notice is that people on these public forums give a lot of advice, some is good, some pedantic, some okay, and some rubbish. Weight loss is a lot easier than how it feels sometimes. Good Luck
