Have you lost weight since you got your Fitbit?

I am the exact same weight as I was when I got my Flex 3 1/2 months ago!

How about you?

I'm hoping with Spring here and Summer around the corner, that my walking will increase.

For me, the potato is gone altogether.  Pretty much all of the P's--potato, pasta, pizza, pop (soda/caffeine).  And we have only gone through about 2 loaves of bread this year.

When I was trying to reverse my Type 2 Diabetes through diet & exercise, my Internal Medicine doctor told me one of the most important things was to eliminate "white foods". She listed "white foods" as things such as white potatoes, white rice, white bread, white pasta or anything made with white flour, etc.  Sweet Potatoes were ok, as was whole wheat pasta and whole grain brown rice.   To make a long story short, I am no longer Type 2 Diabetic, and am now classed as pre-diabetic. All through diet and exercise.

I have lost 42 #'s  and just about where I want to be and I'm starting to feel "good in my skin" again.

I have really worked on my diet, logging my food and paying particular attention to portion size, of course along with and stepping up my activity.

Fitbit has been a huge motivator for me and that's the greatest gift.

I was having a discussion with my doctor the other day about the value of the Fitbit and he said to me"well its not a medical device"  meaning it wasn't as acurate as a heart rate monitor. True no doubt but I think that  misses the point. Even if the Fitbit is off 20% does it really matter all that much? The real value to me is that it causes me to act, to move , to enjoy a good walk, to smell the roses as it were, and most importantly to feel better about myself.  It's not that difficult, if you make a "part of your daily life, I 'm sure many  Fitbiter's feel the same way.

Congratulations, @macwolfe!  42# is no small accomplishment, and it is good to hear that you feel good in your skin!

I fully agree with you!  Fortunately, my doctor is just the opposite - he wants to review the stats of my Fitbit every time I see him, and he comments on changes "we" need to make.  Even if the Fitbit is off 20%, that would be a relative number and any changes would also be relative to that number. But, I'm not sure it is off 20%, especially for the Resting Heart Rate (RHR) - the RHR number my Fitbit reports is always within a point or 2 of what the doctor sees on his medical quality equipment.

We are expressing exactly the same thought. I used the the 20% as a exaggerated difference but it is relative to itself. The RHR. Is an interesting point. And that's exactly what started the conversation with the Doc. I commented to him that my RHR had dropped about 20% since the start of the year, as result of diet , combined with an active work out regiment, that's when he made his comment. Don't worry I'll win him over !

My weight goes up and down , I loss 2 lbs and then gain it back. I trying to get a change HR to get heart rate monitor, to see if that will help some.

I've lost 8lb since I got my fitbit. I am more motivated than ever because of heart rate monitoring, calories burned, steps taken, and calorie counting. Also another thing is competing with fitbit friends.

I need to work on getting the HR monitoring, i think it will help so I know how many calories I burn. I feel like a work so hard over to have my weight go up and down two pounds.

I lost 17-18 kg or 37.5-40 lb's in 3 months with my fitbit. Now I am trying to keep my weight steady and I am doing fine so far. The calories in vs out is a really motivating feature if used correctly 🙂Fitbit.PNG

I think people are expecting too much from HR monitoring: Fitbit had an algorithm that worked fine for estimating calories well before the first HR-enabled trackers came out. Of course, the same algorithm is still being used with existing trackers that don’t feature HR monitoring. Just because your Fitbit has HR monitoring won’t make it easier for you to burn calories. And if you feel you’re working too hard to get your weight down, you should probably pay more attention to the nutrition side: it’s hard work / time-consuming to burn 500 calories through exercise, but saving the same 500 calories can be a simple decision that just take a couple of seconds.

I thought if u have the HR or knowing your HR would tell u better of how many calories u. The calories burned is great, it's just seem a little High to me, but I love all the info about the HR

@Dominique - I agree that it's easier to cut 500 calories than to burn them off.  I originally bought the Charge HR as in the past I've done too much and ended up run down.  One of those signs was rising resting heart rate even though I was exercising like mad.  However, I admit that I like the overall data that it provides.  It also lets me pay attention to what my resting rate is, and I can see how my heart rate falls after exertion (ie. relatively quickly).  I see it as another good tool for my weight loss.

What a dopey comment from your doctor. Here u have used the fitbit to lose 42 lbs. and have increased your likelihood of a healthier and longer life and he make a negative comparison. He needs a course in motivational interviewing on the double.

Congrats for your achievement.

I fully agree with you. My fitbit is a motivational tool. I accept that it is not 100% accurate, but overall it's not bad.
Having challenges and setting daily goals all help motivate us to do the workouts that we may not always feel like doing. Plus the sense of acomplishment when you reach a milestone helps to bolster our resolve for the next one.

I've had a fitbit since Oct of last year.  I was just using it to try and increase my steps each day. I started working on my weight July 27th 2016.  Since then I've lost 16.1 lbs.   I strive to eat 1000 calories less then i burn each day and so far it's worked very well.   My strength has improved along with my overall health and I'm excited about my progress!
