Have you lost weight since you got your Fitbit?

I am the exact same weight as I was when I got my Flex 3 1/2 months ago!

How about you?

I'm hoping with Spring here and Summer around the corner, that my walking will increase.

Nope! Although I love my Fitbit, I regularly burn 3,500 calories/day and consume about 2,200, at least for the past few months. I think my body's ability to turn water into fat may be the key to the world's energy crisis. If someone can explain to me how a net calorie burn of 110,000 calories since July 10th did not result in weight loss, I would be happy to hear you words of wisdom. I feel like if I ate only lard coated with sugar, that much of a deficit should STILL result in weight loss?!

Because your estimated burn is 3500 a day, you were not measured to burn that much.

Because your logged food eaten was 2200 a day, you did not actually eat that much.

Estimates on both side of the CICO equation - and yours are apparently badly off for some reason - the results prove it.

Do you log all food that goes through your mouth by weight?

Calories is per gram, not cups, spoons, or "about 3 servings per package" volume measurements (unless liquids).

And even nutritional labels in US are allowed to be upwards of 20% off.

Eat out much, or in this climate, get take out often?

What comprises the 3500 estimated daily burn?

Fitbit can be decently accurate for average case scenarios - you may not be average.

Tons of steps means calorie burn based on distance requires better accuracy of stride-length setting for daily activity movement.

HR-based calorie burn for anything where HR is non-steady-state (HR up and down constantly) or anaerobic workouts will be inflated.

Issues on either side of CICO could easily eat up what on paper would appear to be an over 1000 cal deficit. (eat up! get it.... ok)

Inspiration @msfaithk !  Congratulations!  I'm sure you feel great physically...how about otherwise?   After dropping over 100 lbs, with 35ish to go,   I'm noticing mood swings....

This is my second go-around using Fitbit after wandering around with other trackers for 3 years. Thanks @N8teGee for bringing me back home.

I have lost weight with FitBit before. What I've found in my wanderings is:

-MFP is extremely generous in their daily calorie calculations and more generous when giving Fitbit activity credit. Doesn't work for me.

-Using the FitBit Wearable with the Fitbit food tracker yields the most consistent weight loss...and I like having Activity+Food Journal in the same app

Here's to keeping in maintenance/target weight zone!

Just FYI on that point of MFP being generous.

Their math to create an adjustment merely causes the daily burn to match what Fitbit said you burned daily. And then deficit is taken for weight loss.

Unless you were manually logging exercise on MFP from their database, which does nothing but replace what Fitbit said you burned - and indeed that is a bad idea.

I've had it on for maybe 6 months ...   my weight has increased, but my life is in slow motion with the Covid restrictions.  My fitness center closed.  I need to lose 20 lbs - - I've cut waaaaay back on sugar and carbs, hoping that will make a difference.

Welcome to the Fitbit forum, @WhiteLilacs!

Fitness centres aren't the only way to get exercise and lose weight - I've never been to one in my life, but I was still able to lose 9kg (approx 20lbs) in the last year and my nurse wants me to increase my weight now!

I did it by walking our dog up and down our street a few times, twice a day and also doing laps of the downstairs of our house and tiny (5 metres long apparently) back yard for 15 minutes every other hour, every day.  Both totally free and both helped me to lose the weight.

You can do it too.

Just because Covid temporarily closed your fitness centre doesn't mean that there aren't other free and safe ways to exercise to lose the weight you want/need to!  😉

As for the food, cut back on what you're eating and choose lower-calorie foods as opposed to whole food groups and log everything that passes your lips into your Fitbit app.  Make sure that is set to "lose weight" and aim to turn it green or blue each day, rather than red.

I'm allergic to dairy so can't have butter, yet 3 slices of bread and dairy-free spread send my calorie consumption through the roof because the spread is 530 calories per serving (because it's made with oil rather than milk) so I eat that if I need to rapidly increase my calories for the day.  Make full use of the calorie counter and resist the temptation to cheat too... it's hard going but so worth it.

Instead of snacking on crisps (chips) and chocolate (like I used to), switch to fruit and raw vegetables (like carrots) because they are significantly lower-calorie and significantly healthier while still filling you up until your next meal.

I did it in under a year without setting foot outside of our street just by being stricter with myself and making full use of the Fitbit app, so I reckon you can too!  😀

Happy New Year to the "Have you lost weight since you got your FitBit?" Followers 🎉 , I do wish you all a healthy/healthier 2021.

In the UK we’re in Tier 4, which isn’t great and every day I/we have to dredge through interpretations of the restrictions as they become more confusing; personally, I take my daily 6-7 mile walks , buy fresh veg/fruit as and when needed and only have physical contact with my support group (son and/or daughter) and one close friend who also lives on her own maybe once a week ☹️, other than that, I’m indoors.

I was hoping to attach this update to my original 28 July post but it wasn’t possible so I have created a new, separate one in order to provide further details of my progression, and I’m pleased to say that on 16 December (which was also my birthday) I was able to hit the upper limit of my target weight, by that I mean I have lost 5 STONE (US money = 70lbs) and am down to 12st 5lbs/173lbs 🎊💪 ; since this date I lost another 1lb on 25 December but gained this 1lb when I weighed myself after the Festive and New Year period, I’m being comfortable with that, I ate loads of minced pies, Caribbean rum cake and drank pints of Prosecco and alcoholic beverages 🍗 🎂🍾 😂.  I’m now 5lbs off my target which is 12st/168 lbs and have given myself to the end of this month to achieve this.

Fitbit has definitely helped me to stay on track, compete and challenge myself to do/achieve ‘better the next day/week’.  I have been borderline obsessive about recording my food intake, I believe it is important to do this if you are serious about losing weight and ensuring that you take stock of what goes into your mouth – food wise J.  At this point, I’m still sticking to approx. 1250 cals per day, I’m not additionally eating the calories I burn but know that it will count towards my weight loss instead; once I reach my goal I will look to change this in order to maintain my weight.  Trust me, I’ve not at all been virtuous in my efforts, I do have (what I’m calling) ‘Railroad Days’, when I go off track big time and attempt a ‘Man v Food’ 🍔 🍩🍟exercise 😂 , I allow it – it’s part of me and I literally unleash myself on food BUT tell myself to have a better two days following this meltdown to make up for it, which I invariably do 😇

I have increased my Step goal to 15k per day, now that Winter has set in it is harder to achieve but have told myself “if it’s not raining, then you can walk”, I mean who likes to walk in cold rain ….  What I do need to restart is my gym work out and improving my core stability and muscle toning 💪.  I had gone back into the gym during September and October when ‘Lockdown’ had relaxed and gyms had re-opened but now they’re closed again it has been difficult to do this from home; this has been added to my ‘to do list’ this week.

Well there it is, thought it was going to be a quick summary but I love to chat plus writing this has kept me out of the kitchen and food … see you again when I get to target 🏆

Thank you Amanda and Jojo - -  I need all of the inspiration I can get!  You two have got it together!  I am terrible at walking, sounds ridiculous - but getting my winter gear on and trudging out in the cold, just isn't my cup of tea...   I do have the stereo on and dance around the house a bit 🙂   I'll get there.  Only hitting about 5k steps a day ...   working my way up (hopefully).

It sounds like you're making great strides forward, @JojoTerry!  Don't let a bit of water put you off walking though - you get wetter in the shower after all  😉  If you really don't fancy walking in the rain, just walk around your house... doing laps of your house will increase you step count and help towards losing those final 5lbs!

Keep on keeping on, @WhiteLilacs!  If you don't fancy going out and about in the cold, then spend 10 or 15 minutes every other hour of every hour you're awake doing laps of your house.  You should feel proud of those 5k steps - it's double what I achieve most days!
