Healthy November 2017 (Step) Goal Challenge

Halloween is over but the temptation season is just getting started.  So purge the house of all that leftover candy (what, there isn't any, well carry on then ...), and set some goals for November!

How It Works:

The purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for November 2017. This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 30 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 30.

Optional
3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.
4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 30.

The optional items list has grown over the past months. That's why the title has steps in (). In the end it's about setting goals and improving habits. So the optional items can really be anything. Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc. Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you might be aiming for a number that is less than 30 for some goals -- maybe 5, 10, or 15. Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

November Goals

10K steps/day for 30 days + bonus steps

1 Push-up/day for 30 days + bonus reps

1 Pull-up/day for 30 days + bonus reps

Veggie for breakfast for 30 days

Gain (gulp!) 2-4 lbs (start: 159.1 lbs)

14 lifting days

My steps, pull-up, and push-up goals are "mini-habits" I do to make sure I take the first step toward exercising every day.  They are stupid easy (well 10K steps can be a little work on non-bike commute days) and I can do them even when sick.  And I almost always do more which is why I have a daily bonus metric after each of them.  According to my "Streaks" app, I've managed the push-up and pull-up goal 91 days in a row!

I  added a "veggie for breakfast" last month as an experiment.  I like it and plan to keep it up.  I count two items that are technically fruits as veggies -- tomatoes and avocados.  My thinking there is that they are really low on sugar compared to typical breakfast fruits ...  and I really like 'em!

And I'm going to try and gain 2-4 lbs this month.  I know, I know, big challenge trying to gain weight in November and December.  Well, we'll see.  I've lost about 40 lbs this year and I am now trying to put on some muscle.  The plan is to go from 160 to 170 over 12 weeks or so, with, hopefully half or more of the weight gain being muscle.  There are NO BONUS POINTS, and a whole lot less muscle gain, if you get the whole 10 lbs in a single month!  So, more food, but not too much more.  I will update my TrendWeight (moving average of daily weigh-ins, see link in my signature) on Sundays both on this thread and the Weekly Weigh In thread.

Good luck to everyone with your goals this month!

10K steps/day for 30 days + bonus steps. 1/30 + 15k
1 Push-up/day for 30 days + bonus reps. 1/30 + 19
1 Pull-up/day for 30 days + bonus reps. 1/30 + 5
Veggie for breakfast for 30 days 1/30 (avocado tomato)
Gain (gulp!) 2-4 lbs (start: 159.1 lbs)
14 lifting days 1/14

Off to a good start except that I aggravated a shoulder strain from last week on my bench press.  Improved a bit over night, but will need to work around it for a few weeks.

Count me in for Healthy November, better than Nasty (a comment on my local weather).

I'm sticking with my goals of 10 k steps, 35 floors, 5 miles per day.  Though some days it's hard to reach out and make these goals it gives me something to strive for.

I have added yoga/tai chi to my mornings mostly as a stretching routine although it does add some muscle. it takes about 15 minutes to work through this.

As for eating, we have been vegetarians for 26 years so that is not an issue. Do have to watch my intake to avoid gaining weght. My weight gain usually revolves around desserts, my major weakness.

count me in for November!

goal of 10,500 k steps every Saturday & Sunday
Monday -> Friday = 7,000k steps a day

I have my goal set for 10,500- however during the week with working - very hard to achieve, love the split idea.

What day's do you post results?

(no Halloween candy at home-- but work was another story! -)

I'm upping my step goal a bit from last month as I was close it it anyway and I have a 30 day challenge app on my phone that has different exercises for different areas of the body. This month I'm going to focus on my arms in addition to my walking as I've been meaning to do arm exercises for quite some time now. I'll list out what I had to do with each day.

Goals:

7k steps a day for 30 days

30 day arm challenge

November1:

7k steps a day - 1/30 - 7,684

30 day arm challenge - 1/30 - 5 push-ups (I did them on my knees), 5 tricep dips, 10 mountain climbers, and 20s plank

@Gayle1018 - people do different things. Some daily, or every couple of days.  I try to check in daily. Just sort of keeps me accountable, and I get motivated by other people's posts.  Usually good at that during the week as I've got a train commute and do it then.  But I sometimes will double or triple up a report after a missing a couple of days on the weekend.

My November goals:

6 mile a day average

at least 4 strength training exercises/weights and weight machines/ at least 3x a week...would love to be 145 by end of the month too...I’m 148 not tryna lose 8 lbs during a holiday month lol!

edit: changed my weight goal to 3x rather than 4x a week because I’m just starting and this feels more doable for now while still challenging.
