The first time, I lost 40 pounds. Why? Because my father scared me one day with his articles he found about large belly being number cause of death of 40 years old man. I did not want to die so, I did what I had to do.
That's the second most important. And the principle is applicable to every area of your life you want to improve on. Like when travelling to a new place, if you don't want to get lost or run in circle, you have to follow your progress. And that's where Fitbit come right into play. When I was on my first 40 pounds, Fitbit did not exist. But I used another online website to track down my progress. And it worked like a charm. Then, with Fitbit, it was the same principe but easier. No need to enter my weight daily in the software, Aria is doing it for me each time I get on the scale! Then, with my Flex, I'm satisfying my scientic brain by being a lot more precise with my journey. That might be a subject for a next article!
At first, I knew nothing about dieting . All I was hearing was stuff that did not make sense to my scientific mind: dont mix this food with this food, don't eat before going to bed, etc...... So, I started digging, researching, to finally confirm what I knew inside: it's purely mathematical. What you spend minus what you eat is the weight you lose(or gain!!!!)
You see a lot of stuff being said about live healthy, loose weight. That's partly right. You could also be gaining weight if you were eating salad all day long. Living healthy and loose weight is 2 different goals. When I lost my first 40 pounds I was still eating Mcdonald's and greasy foods... but just less of it. Since I was counting my calories and was pretty good at respecting my calorific budget, I lost weight with the same junk food that made me gain it in the first place! The thing is: if at the same time you are reducing your food intake, you force youself to eat food you don't like, there'a good chance you won't stand the ride for long.
If you get in dieting seriously, one of the first thing that will hit you is how little calories you loose while exercising. Just 500 calories for running one hour!!!! I might as well switch a McDonald meal for a salad instead! Well, that was my reasonning for my fist 40 pounds. But now you will learn what happen with the next 25 pounds I lost. People who know me, know that I fuel on challenge. So I recently decided that I would run a marathon! After reading on it, it came obvious that it would be easier if i could cut an extra 25 pounds off my shoulders! But then, I also had to get into serious training, therefore, exercise. Well, you know what: I liked it! And on top of it, it's extra calories to add daily on the minus side.
Now check this out! Since I was already respecting my daily caloric budget to lose between 1 to 2 pounds per week, these extra exercise negative calories, I could either bank them and loose faster OR reward me with a bigger dinner!
So, I hope that some parts of what I wrote will help you continue or start loosing weight. Please reply with your comments and successes.
Good luck!

Wow, that story is very inspiring! My weight loss journey began when my father was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2004. We almost lost him in December 2014 and I spent alot of time with him talking about different things and it made me realize that I don't want to be over weight and this happen to me so on 01-01-15 I made a change in my eating habits and added exercise and here I am :). I'm down 15lbs.
