How do I avoid eating fried foods?

ANSWERED

I am a person who is constantly craving fried foods (french fries, chicken strips, etc)...and not chocolate (crazy, I know!) or sweets in general. For example, I would much rather eat a basket of tater tots than a snickers bar. I can say no to brownies but NEVER french fries.

Does anyone else have this problem? What do those cravings mean for my diet? And which foods should I turn to stop those cravings?

For me, the way to stop the cravings is to stop eating them, or at least make it for the rare, special occasion.  Or if you're dining out with a family member, ask for 2-3 of their fries and call it 'done', and never order your own.  Usually, you crave something out of habit.  Make sure you're getting healthy fats in your diet instead.  I'd take the fries over the Snickers, too.  Not eating fast food meals makes it a lot easier to avoid them.

You could always make your own fried foods which would be less bad stuff. All you need is a home fryer commonly sold everywhere and Crisco Pure Vegetable Oil which would substitute restaurant oil and your favorite food you would commonly fry.

And by weighing the oil before and after, you would know how much went into the food you are eating - If that doesn't help control your cravings, I don't know what would - I love the hash browns at my local breakfast spot but once I decided to lose some weight and I saw the calorie count it became much easier to bypass them -

You coat it with Cornflakes or something and then Bake it. Its very good.

But I also agree quit eating it and you wont even like the smell anymore.

Some experts call this having a "fat tooth" instead of a "sweet tooth".  I agree with the other replies. Have had to go cold turkey on the fried food - cannot have just 3 tater tots.  I also had to stop buying hard cheese because I never could keep it to 1 ounce.  I eat mostly fruits and veggies and use virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the veggies.  It tastes best at room temperature this way.  I also stay out of fast food restaurants!  Bev
