I've "listened in" on this thread for some days now. To me, it sounds like if you're not "into it" (i.e., doing what it takes to get to your desired weight), then it's very easy to come up with reasons not to do part of it. And regular frequent weighings will tell you over time whether your diet and exercise routine are effective.
Not saying that weighing once a week or month is particularly bad, but there are going to be up and down swings in your weight all the time (holding poop, birthday splurge, some days when you are sick and can't exercise, etc.), but as the trend goes, you will see satisfaction in your weight loss.
Early on, I was determined to "stick to it" and measure every day at the same time (after getting up, going to the bathroom, and then weighing at 5 AM). That way, I could see over time how I was doing. It's worked for me. 7 1/2 months later, 102 lbs lost, but I have to tell you, there were days when I questioned my sanity....

After that will work on maintain myself. Yes i too hop on the scale everyday around 4.30 to 5.00AM 7 days a week, have seen the same thing it goes up and down, but over a period of time the trend is good.

Once a week. At the same time, preferably in the morning after going to the loo.
Weight will fluctuate throughout the week.

I agree... weighing in daily... same time of day... naked... is most reliable.
The scale is going to go up and down and up more than you want it too but that is normal depending on how much fluid or food retention you are experiencing.
The upside to this is if the scale goes up you can review what you ate...salt... cheated... or it is life.
One can learn much about their individual health and habits by doing this and long as you are staying on your lifesytle choice the patterns will tell a story that you can correctt if you are not happy with results.
I do like to set a day as a go to for weekly results as well.
Truth be told it is as individual a choice as the food you choose to eat. YOU are your Truth monitor.

I don't weigh myself that often, I have a hate/hate relationship with the scale. I haven't weighed myself in months. I do the tape measurements though once a month to see if I have lost any inches.

Safari.
I think you are correct in weighng each day and expecially Friday. I just weight myself at 193.5 pounds, which I would prefer to be 192 or slightly less in preparation for the weekend. Given the 193.5, I will not watch more closeley what I eat over the two days. I'm noe mentally prepared to control the consumption.

I've adjusted my weigh-in schedule to Mondays and Thursdays. Weighing in twice a week keeps me focused and more motivated to reach my goals.

I weigh in daily (on aria scale-can't fudge on the numbers) but I think once I get to my goal once a week will be okay.

Weigh in truly is up to the individual. I need to see the numbers especially if I am wearing loose fitting clothes... somehow it is just too easy not to notice...lol. Do you like the scale? I hope to purchase one in the future. Keep up the good work.

I love my Aria scale also, but would prefer if it was more accurate and consistant.
All that aside tho, it's the ease of use that is really outstanding. I moved home recently and whilst I had the Aria with me, I didnt have Internet access, however I weighed myself daily nevertheless.
A week later I connected up my Wifi and weighed myself, thinking I'd at least have the one reading on my chart.
Lo and behold, *all* the weigh-ins I had performed (even while I had no Wifi) were also there, how did that happen ?
Answer, the Aria had saved the readings and then uploaded them all when it had Wifi access ...
That's pretty cool I think, and I'm a electronics tech.
Good one Fitbit, nice work!
Cheers

I weigh myself every morning after I wake up and use the restroom. I've only been using the FitBit One since June 5th, and already I can see my average trend is about 1lb a week, despite the spikes and troughs throughout the week.
I also started getting out the tape measure to do those additional measurements, but I think I'll only log them on Sunday mornings.
How would you recommend measuring the body fat percentage? I don't know what instrument does that as my scale is a simpleton. Thanks!

Jabrat,
Congrats on the weight loss. I also weight every day. Over time, I've found that when I lose about 20 pounds, I also lose about 2 inches off my waist. I've gone from 3X shirts to medium size shirts since I started on my weight loss campaign. About every two months now (until I reach my target weight of around 160-165 and I'm currently at 194) I'm having to get new pants and shirts because the larger stuff is getting to baggy.
Don't get discouraged if your weight goes up and down as long as the trend is down.

TessaLee, I have been using the Aria scale since December 2013 and still don't know how the percentage of fat it indicates on it works. Some days I am at 28% and other days I am at 26% and other days I am at 25% so who knows! I am just concerned about my weight and I follow the same regime you do of weighing myself every morning!
I have been weighing myself every morning for the last 20 years and of course the scale goes up and down, depending on our intake of fluids and food on a daily basis. But do not despair and continue your weight loss program and don't give up.
Of course, I am 68 years old and my knees are not in the best of shape as well as my health and can't exercise or walk like I used to in my younger days but I try to maintain my diet the best I can.
You take care and keep up the good work!

@thomakg wrote:I refuse to weigh myself - at least right now. I have been sweating over the scale numbers since I was a teenager - always worried about the ten or fifteen or twenty or thirty pounds I think I have to lose. I am 53 years old this year, and I have finally decided that I will not be a slave to the number. I am watching the food I eat and using my fitbit to show me how much I should be moving to keep myself healthy. I know I am losing, but somehow I think I will jinx myself if I start looking at the number on the scale, instead of the energy input/output values that I get from eating right and keeping my old arthritic butt moving. I hope the jeans get looser - I think that is what will make me happier.
Thomakg and everyone else here,
I think the major point is being missed here. We're all obsessed here. Otherwise we wouldn't be working out and trying to get to a "healthier me" state. Everything else is either a tool, mechanism, or metric that is used to measure our progress and is part of a full regimine of exercise, nutrition, and wellness. I weigh daily at the same time in the morning and yes if I'm holding poop, then my weight will "hover" on a current poundage for a couple days. But, I find that with calories burned, calories eaten, and effective exercise, that weight measurement is generally a pleasant factoid each day.
Please don't get overly hungup on praying to the almighty scale. But keep weighing in in perspective. It's a useful tool and statistic. Yes, you will experience occassional ups and downs, but if you stick to your diet and exercise, over time, your weight will decrease. It has for me...
