Jumpin' June 2017 (Step) Goal Challenge

ANSWERED

How It Works:

The purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for June 2017. This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency . So whether you do 100,1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 30 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.

Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day

Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format

1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.

2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 30.

Optional

3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.

4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 30.

Oddly enough, the optional items keep growing, that's why I changed the title slightly.  In the end it's about setting goals and improving habits.  So the optional items can really be anything.  Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc.  Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you would be aiming for a number not necessarily out of 30.  Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice

If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Day Fifteen

1. 10,000 steps/day. I will be consistent in June!
15/30

2. Running. I will run 70 miles during the month.
40.9/70

Still going strong! 15/15 days for steps at the half way point and >60% of 70 miles.

Next run is Parkrun on Saturday morning. If I resist the temptation to go too quick too soon, I might just snag a PB!

I wish I could manage any kind of distance for my jogs. I can walk forever it seems, but, my jogging is still very limited. I tried couch to 5k several years ago and never made it past week 3. This time around I've been doing my own thing. I just jog as long as I can and then walk. My longest jog segment so far is only around 6 minutes, but, still better than I did last year.

14-15th:

1) 115/26 days - 5000 steps or equal stationary activity (like spinning)

2) 5/9 days - gym program

3) 4/4 days - hiking

4) 1/4 days - take it slow

Hiking yesterday, gym today. Everything is just rolling along and this week has been great in the eating department (finally).

Seems the hiking thing has really become a thing for me. I enjoy it so much and I think I'll do at least two more before the end of the month. We'll see...

It works for me!

Some people want to weigh a certain amount.

Some people want to be able to run a marathon. Or have big muscles. Or have a belly that looks like a xylophone.

I just want to be happy and healthy.

It makes me happy that it gives you a smile.

Fitbit problems...

I climbed wearily in to bed and had a quick look at the Fitbit app.

OMG! WTF! FFS!

14,991 steps.

How in the name of all that is sacred could any Fitbitter sleep with 14,991 steps?

Back out of bed!

That's better! Now I can sleep. That's better! Now I can sleep.

Day 15: Completed comfortably without any trouble. Lately I am scrambling to finish my steps around 9:30 - 10:00 PM and walking/jogging in my bedroom to hit the goal. I try to avoid this 90% of the time.  But this month, it's totally opposite. Being busy @ work and heat wave (UV high in the afternoon for the last few days) are some of the factors. Yesterday was a good day!

1) 13 k step goal  - 13 out of 15/30
2) Run - 10 days - 2/10 (Still working on this.)
3) Active minutes: 30 + - 13 out of 15/30
4) Plank: - 11 out of 15/30
5) Push up : 11 out of 15/30

Several years ago I used to go walking on a local trail with my daughter who was a toddler at the time. We happened upon a mama bear and her three cubs. Mama bear ordered her cubs up into a tree and then watched us. I slowly turned the stroller around and left as carefully as I could.

I haven't walked that trail since. It was really cool seeing them and I'll never forget how stinkin' cute it was to see those 3 little cubs up in a tree all fussing and crying for their mom. But, I did decide it was not a good choice for a walk with a stroller.

The zombies run app was fun, I've owned that one before and used to enjoy it. 🙂

2) 5/9 days - gym program

3) 4/4 days - hiking

Steps achieved by doing C25k. No zombies for me, just remembered my cues and looked at my Blaze a lot.

It's getting warm outside and I can't stand wearing too much clothing when exercising so today I went out in a thin pair of tights and a t-shirt. Luckily my phone fits just so (without headphones) in the "key pocket" of my tights so I can use the connected GPS.

I can never seem to get comfortable with the arm bands you keep your phone in but I'm gonna have to give it some more serious tries because sometimes I just need some music to keep me going.

Zombies and Bears? I get excited when I see a squirrel! But maybe that's because we have the lovely red ones?

What a day. I home school my daughter and she is just finishing kindergarten. Today she had her end of year testing and in my area she has to go to a testing facility and pass the SAT-10 to be allowed to home school next year. There is only one testing facility in my area, about an hour away, and they only test on Fridays. I work in a library and summer programs are in full swing and I'm involved in all of them, which means I can't really take days off during the summer. I managed to pull a few strings to take today off, but, it wasn't going to happen again. Anyhow, kiddo woke up at 2 AM coughing and vomiting and was up all night sick. Finally fell asleep at 10 AM and then I had to wake her up for her test at 1 PM. She slept in the car on the way there, barfed again in the car right before we got there and then managed to tough it out through 2 hours of testing. She was sick again in the car on the way home, thankfully I keep a coffee can for just those purposes. Gack! I felt so bad for her, but there were no alternatives. In my anxiety, I ate like 4 corn dogs and my weight in Reese's Pieces.  I've been walking since I got home trying to create some measure of deficit. Well, in between putting kid in the shower to help her clear her lungs a bit.

I've hit 17,000 steps and am up to around a 700 calorie deficit according to fitbit. So, I think I will have to call that good enough.

I sure hope all those veggies I've been eating give me some kind of immune boost.

Wow! It's so hot here.

It was blisteringly hot even at 9am today when I ran my local Parkrun (5km). No PB today, but still a quite respectable 27:18.

Not too shabby for a fat lad!

Felt like I couldn't just sit inside and feel blue all day so ended up having another go at c25k.

Exercise is becoming oddly therapeutic and combined with the rain and the music today it just made my day.

Steps were down a bit yesterday because my brother in law and his wife decided spur of the moment to take me and my wife out to celebrate her birthday.  Jane always gets a surprise birthday dinner from her brother because it comes anywhere from one to six months after her actual birthday :-). We had a lot of fun.  Finished the night off hanging on the back porch.
