Just wondering if there are any older women trying the Fitbit, I am 70 and just started.

Looking to see if anyone else my age is trying the fitbit to lose weight, I am 70 but I do workout with a personal trainer and take Yoga.

I don't count the walking as my exercise. However I think that each person is on her or his journey. The trick is to figure what you can reasonably and successfully do. Then push a baby step more each week. It is amazing what small changes can do for your attitude and your body. My confidence has increased too.

Small examples: I pace while I blow dry my hair. I walk during commercials. I flap my arms. I keep my arms close to my ears for overhead triceps. I cut down the sugar in my coffee. I cut my butter intake in half. I hardly ever eat bread.

Each small change is a success. Good luck.

I love the motivation that I have since I bought the fitbit--even with my recent set back--now I am more conscious of my movements as far as steps.  If I go to sit at the couch, I walk fast in place for about 100 or so steps.    I plan my workouts more now--it is kind of an obsession with me now.

Yes,we are all on our own journey, and I am so much more motivated reading all of your posts, as I get even more motivated.

Have a great day everyone.

Hi Barbara, 74 in June - sometimes I cannot believe this - feel 30 somewhere inside me. Did my cardio-glider this morning - and ice is melting - so will be able to walk outside today - now if I could just stop the midnight eating!!! (3rd contract on house in trouble - and will be kicked out of leased condo end of April - will have to move again. Need to do my deep breathing now!!).

It's amazing what we can accomplish if we set our minds to it.  As you said, start with baby steps, then work up from there. Keep it up.

I walk while commercials are on - adds up.  You're doing great.

You should be getting more sleep so you can eliminate the midnight eating.  You're doing awesome with you glider.

Wow - 6 lbs. is great. I find when I hit a new low the next couple days it bounces back a little about a lb. and it takes some days to get back to the low and drop a little more. Finally this morning I touched down at 146.1. again. What is peculiar a minute later with same lack of clothes and after peeing a couple more ounces, the scale went up .2 to 146.3, Please the graphic details but does anyone else's scale waver a few ounces? Crazy Costco scale but I am recording the first and lower reading darn it. Smiley Wink

Getting more active is such a joy in that I feel stronger and more capable. That is a youthful feeling and I love it. being just a month short of 74. I love flying across the floor doing the foxtrot or waltz.

Yesterday I made my 10k in steps as well as Friday but some days I'm over and even under a few days.

My biggest challenge is not grazing on nuts or dried berries toooooo often. I often fell hungry when I haven't drank enough water because I'm busy working outside in the garden or driving and my water bottle is empty.

Well, out this chair to fill my water bottle and off to an active day hopefully.

Wishing all my wonderful cohorts in health the strength and courage to stick with it to reach your goals. Are we 9 weeks to MD now moving in the right direction.

warmest regards,

welcome Pokie,

Nice and slowly build up your strength by adding steps so not to over do and kick up the your illness. Eating a super healthy diet is suppose to help. Check out DrFuhrman.com as he has good info. about nutrition and auto immune disorders.

I log my food and it keeps me more based in reality and not fooling myself.

All the best,

Hi Carol,

Sittin down you may be able to do leg exercises. The idea is to eat fewer calories when less active. since you will be healing from surgery it is vital to eat LOTS of veggies, fruit like berries and lean protein. Drink lots of water and eat fiber to keep the elimination system going.

Soon you will be back at an active life and losing the extra lbs.

I like DrFuhrman.com's nutrition ideas best.

Hi Marie

Are you feeling stronger from therapy? Those muscles burn 8x more energy than the rest of the body's cells. It is just a matter of time until the scale starts smiling at you again.

Love your comments of support for myself and others.

Keep logging away and burning more than eating.

That is 3 of us turning 74 this year in our older women chat. Exciting to have age mates from 1941 walking toward health.

Totally cool,

Hi Mjxcw

Does WW count starchy veggies like corn or potatoes as no points and unlimited?

Glad WW is helping you to meet your goals. I agree that little changes make a difference.

Barbara -

I am stronger from therapy and hope to keep up the exercises in addition to walking.  Trying to get 10,000 every day - some days are harder than others but like the "energizer bunny"  I'll keep going.

Nice to have friends to chat with who offer encouragement (especially for youngsters like us.)

So true.  We 1941ers have to stick by each other.

Premeasure the nut portion in snack baggies. They add up too fast.

I make tea in the afternoon and have my sit down at the table snack then. I figure the calories or points in advance so I keep it under control.

If you care, buy a better quality scale. Fitbit has one that sincs with the computer.

Great suggestion to pre measure nuts. I did it once and then not again.Woman Sad I think that I need to do it again because the cals or pts. add up quickly. Just back from a walk of 1 hour and 4 mins. in the nice weather as I chatted with my sister by cell phone. She got on her bike and rode in place for 17 minutes so that was good for both of us.

We can do this muscle building and healthy eating to meet our goals.

Best to you and all our older adults and heck the younger ones too.
