LC-IF discussion/challenge thread

Hi all

I'm setting up this discussion thread for anybody who practices or is interested in LCHF with IF, and wants a place to chat/check in etc.

This is NOT a place for people to diss LC-IF; there are plenty of other spots for that kinda stuff.

I'll start 🙂  :

Current weight 200.4 (weekend bloat) July 4 2016

Net carb goal <20g per day avg

IF goal 72h per week, broken or consecutive, 18h minimum to 'count'

Good luck to all and any who participate!  Rob K

Hi Rob,

Minimum 18 hours to count... bit steep for me. I believe you start seeing IF benefits from 13+ hours and 16 hours means I've skipped at least one meal, so I'm quite happy with 16 hours as "minimum to count".

Current weight: 142kgs (313 lbs)

My IF goals:

3 days per week of 16+ hours

1 day per week of 22 hours

Exercise goal:

Average 30 floors of stairs climbed on the fitbit per day. Current 28-day average is 18 floors per day, but I'm only starting and do go over 30 floors on some days.

So far I've been doing 0-3 days of 16:8 per week, though this Saturday I did a 21 hour fast and yesterday (Monday, I'm in NZ) I did 19 hours. Trying to do it more seriously now.

25+ years ago as a teenager I did a 7-day fast once and though I can't imagine it now, my goal is to get used to doing 22 hour fasts and then to work up to a 7-day fast again. As I said, I can't imagine doing it just yet.

Hi FOM 🙂

I agree that there are no firm rules for IF; I like your plan. Flexible means easier to follow.

18+ works for me because I will have an evening meal w my kids, then 18 hrs gets me to lunch. If I don't feel hungry, I wait til dinner again..24h. If I feel ambitious, I will skip until breakfast..36 hrs. The math is easy lol.

I'm also not religious re 'pure' fasts...I will have BP Coffee and clear soup/broth when I feel like it. (tetra pacs..I tried bone broth but it's a bit of a pain...)

Thanks for your participation and all the best!  Rob

BTW I use 'Kiwi Pure' butter from NZ! Delicious 🙂

I'm 37 hours into a 40 hour fast, woohoo!!! Only water and black,sugar-free coffee. I'm surprised how easy it's been actually.

My weight is down 11Lbs (5kgs) in the last 6 days. I don't want to say "I've lost" 11Lbs, because most of this is water and will return quickly, but it looks good on the scale for the time-being anyway:)

I've got a meeting scheduled for 11:00am, which is when my 40 hours end and with my IBS-inflicted gut I wouldn't make it through a 90 minute meeting once I've eaten something, so I'll have some juice during the meeting and eat afterwards. Challenge now will be not to binge when I break the fast, so setting my limits to a small meal after the meeting, a snack at 3pm and dinner as usual and then back into a 16-18 hour fast and only 2 meals tomorrow.

@FatherOfMany Congrats on the 40! 🙂

I did a 36h to this morning, and I know what you mean re the gut 'waking up' after getting a rest lol.

Gastro-colic reflex is an amazing thing, but don't be stuck in a meeting when it happens 😉

I've done on 8 day fast and one 7 day fast.  I started fasting 16:8, moved to 20:4.  I'm now doing MWF fast and eating normally the other days.  First couple of weeks I tried to combine MWF with 20:4 on Tu-Th which gave me 2 48 hour fasts per week and one 36.  I abandoned that start last week and essentially do 3 36 hour fast per week.  It's a way of life now.

I will also to a 7 day fast once per quarter.

Nicely done @divedragon

I'm really keen on a longer fast, also thinking of 8 days, but I do want to do a bit more IF before I jump into that. I did that 42 hour fast last week and I'm 36 hours into a planned 48 hour one now. Thinking of giving it 2 weeks of regular 24 hour fasts and then going for a longer one.

I agree, I feel great about IF because it feels like a lifestyle rather than a diet. So people say you'll just pick up the weight when you stop fasting and I think I won't, because I never intend to give up fasting of some form for the rest of my life.

So absolutely true. After 6+ mos of dedicated weight loss, I'm basically near where I need to be (and wife is happy etc). The wonderful thing about IF is that I can have an occasional day/evening of eating freely without feeling 'guilty'. I simply IF after the event until the 'bloat' feeling is gone. This 'extra' fasting plus my usual weekly 18/24/36 to 72+ per week seems effortless.

Studies actually show metabolism increases when fasting.  The world record for fasting is 385 days by a Scottsman who weighed almost 500 lbs.  At the end, he weighed 185 and 5 years later he had only gained back to 194 and I don't think he continued fasting.

Yup, and Kevin Hall presented a poster in Vancouver earlier this year which showed the same..TEE did not drop with an isocaloric keto diet compared to SAD. Final study pending.

BTW, do you agree that day 2 is the best re 'energy'?..I love day 2 🙂  R
