To work on hardening those muscles mostly. There's many fitness programs online for working on abs. You can also try Bodybuilding.com's Bodyspace app and search your workouts for "Abdominals" and there's 50 ways including very challenging ones like Kettlebells. Easier ones are like crunches, reverse crunches, bicycle abs, ski abs, and more.

@andreata Women have a much harder time in this area. We are programmed to keep weight there because we are child bearers. I know you can make your muscles stronger there by working those abs, but that doesn't necessairly mean you will get rid of the fat around those muscles. Sometimes belly fat is also really loose skin. The loose skin can only be fixed by surgery. The belly fat.......I know there are theories and some of them might work, but I hesitate to recommend any because it has not helped me. There is one other issue that women seem to be more vulnerable to than men. Visceral fat. That is fat usually around the abdomen that is under the muscle, not on top of it. That is the hardest of all. I don't know of anything specific to help that. If you are within a healthy BMI and still have that issue, I'd talk with a doctor. If not, work on getting there and not specifically targeting your belly. Visceral fat comes off last of all. Sorry if I am discouraging. If there are women who read your post, they might have some better ideas.
@josephz2va You guys have all the luck in this area! I envy you!

It's by no means a fast way but I find that running or swimming are way more effective on abdominal fat than any sit-ups or crunches.

Can't target a specific area bc it'll come off as in last area put on will be the first to burn off. Overall though with clean eating, cardio exercise, and strength training you'll notice a difference in the body fat overall. I am aware that the BMI calculator tool isn't the greatest but it gives you an idea of where your body is at. look at the percent body fat as well. Best wishes 🙂

Expanding on this point
Crunches build better abs
BUT
It doesnt matter how good your abs are, if there is a layer of fat on top of them, they wont be visible, and running / swimming is a much better way to strip away that layer of fat.

It starts in the kitchen 🙂
I have issues with belly fat and amjust resigned that it will come off when it does. I would have to agree with the clean eating, cardio and strength training - plus time.

If you build your ab muscles, you will have stronger ab muscles. But like DominicJ said, no one will ever see them because they will still be hidden under a layer of fat. You need to get rid of the fat, and since you cannot remove fat in specific areas, the only remaining option is to lower overall body fat. That's just how it works.
Having said that, people who have an excess of visceral fat (fat mostly accumulated in the abdominal region) tend to consume an excess of sugars and/or alcohol.
So it seems sensible to cut the carns and/or alcohol a bit as part of an overall caloric deficit. In other words, direct more of your daily calories to protein and fat.
