Low Calorie Recommendations

Is there a way to manually adjust calorie recommendation? My device is regularly telling me, a 5’3” adult maintaining weight, to eat under 1500 calories/day (at the end, not beginning, of the day).

Also: at the end of days where I’ve walked over 3 miles, it still recommends fewer than 1900 calories.

Hello @SunsetRunner and welcome to the Community.  Your calorie recommendation comes from two sources, your BMR calories plus activity calories.  Fitbit uses the Mifflin St Jeor equation to estimate your BMR calories.  It uses your sex, age, height, and weight.  Try this easy to use online calculator to estimate yours.  It's hard to estimate the impact of daily distance.  Activity calories are also based on those same factors.  But there is a difference between walking three miles at one time and walking three miles over a whole day.

1500 calories seems reasonable for someone your height and level of activity, even though I don't know everything else about you.

I'm moving your post to the Manage Weight forum.  I think it is a better fit for your question.

My metabolic rate is medically increased, so I guess the issue is actually that I’m not within the standard. There’s no way to change my caloric needs?

@embalmo   Medication is one factor that will affect BMR.  Body composition is another.  There isn't any way to change the number that Fitbit calculates for you.  If your goal is to maintain, but you are losing weight on the Food Plan recommendation, I think the only option to eat more.
