New Years to Valentine's Day 2016 Challenge

Welcome to the New Year Everyone! This will start January 1, 2016 officially 🙂

If you have seen the posts before this is a challenge that everyone is invited to join to set your own personal weight loss goal for the next 6 weeks. This is all about having a great support system and most importantly feeling great and happy and healthy about yourself. Don't worry if you have bad weeks because we all go through it.

To join the challenge all you need to do is post your weight stats & check in as often as you'd like with an update or just to share a story from your week. This group has some huge inspiration in it and people that give wonderful advice.

Looking forward to catching up with all our friends from the other challenges and anyone who is new!

Thanks @saraj91 for starting up the last challenge!

@dancefoxtrot @swimr12265  Thank you for the encouraging words.  I'm hanging in there.  I'm a tough gal and I know I'll be okay.  I'm not about to let a breakup ruin all of my hard work.  Usually I would turn to the ice cream and all things junk, but I have never been at this weight before and I'll be **ahem**ed if I let myself get back to the 140s!  As predicted, the 135 was just due to a sodium or water issue.  But still 137 as of today 🙂

I wouldn't worry too much @dancefoxtrot.  There's no possible way that you can gain 5 real pounds of fat in just a week, unless you joined some eating contests you're not telling us about 😉  They will be gone before you know it. I guarantee it.

Amazing group! 🙂  Lessons learned:

1) I had maybe 4 binges where the floodgates from my mouth to gut opened...I mean 5000+ calorie binges. Instead of beating myself up, I just carried on...really no damage done!

2) Gradually getting up to 20K per day is easier than I thought..the main issue is finding/making TIME!! Going to try HIIT next challenge.

3) Reading and posting here is a HUGE factor; whenever I felt like dropping everything I'd read this thread and buckle down.

See you all Sunday at the new thread!!   Rob K

@HelenKr

Thanks for the positive prophecy. I was 141.1 this morning so that is .9 less. If I stay out of the figs and nuts from now until I get to sleep in 2 hours I may be less in the AM. Watching a PBS program on ancient chemistry with no food commercials so that should help.

Good Morning and Happy Valentine's Day!

Here's my final check in.  Was a tough one for me... New Years Eve party, my birthday, and a short work conference to San Diego derailed my dieting plans.  I'm happy to a have a small (very!) loss and will join you in the next challenge where I hope to do better.

Came up 5 oz short of the Valentine's goal but being a business traveler who used to put on weight with every trip, I'm glad to have turned that trend around.

Good luck to all of you on the Valentine's to Easter challenge.  I'm going to drop out (I'll still be losing weight), but there are just too many emails, and I can't post my weight every week since I travel so much.  Thanks for keeping me motivated,  however.  I'll join another one later in the year.

Unfortunately I didn't reach mine but I'll push harder now to get where I need to be.

My final check-in for this challenge. I didn't quite reach my goal, but to have gotten below 200, FINALLY, is a great thing for me! I've finally gotten an idea of what it will take for me to lose the weight that I want, and that is the best insight I could get.

I'm up half a pound from a few days ago but I'm usually heaviest on weekends so not bothered by this.  I surpassed my goal, if only slightly!  Could not be happier about this.  I have NEVER been in the 130s and it was a real struggle to get here.  My ultimate goal weight is in sight and I am more motivated than ever to get there.   To all who met their goals, way to go!  To those who did not, don't beat yourself up.  I failed many challenges.  You just have to keep yourself going.  You cannot allow yourself to get discouraged and fall back into old patterns.  You'll get there.  I'm proof! On to the next challenge!

Hi all,

Congrats to all who lost weight and got healthier. On to the next challenge to loose the last 5 lbs again and then maintain it.

I didn't get down to 134 but this challenge but I'm on my way there. I'm disappointed that I let go off my discipline on portion size as I still ate healthy foods and didn't eat junk.

I'm listening and watching PBS show Eat Fat, Get Thin with Dr. Mark Hyman, MD. He eats mostly plant food, avocados, eggs, fish, a little grass fed meat, very low sugar and no refined carbs. He likes olive and coconut oil and even a little butter. Avoids breads, pasta, cake and cookies, of course. Eat slow carbs that are in non starchy veggies he says. Eat good quality protein.  He avoids dairy also. Bad bugs in our guts can cause illness and slow weight loss, so probiotics help. PGX helps weight loss as well he said.

Well enough notes as I listen to this great program.

End weight is 139 lbs., bmi is 21.9 and my next goal is 134 and KEEP IT THERE !!!!

See you in next challenge Valentine Day to Easter.

Best,

Barbara G

Hi Gang!

Final check in for this challenge, we had a kinda crazy busy weekend so I didn't get round to posting this yesterday. Hope you all had lovely Valentines days!

USW 23/3: 186

CSW 1/1: 136

PW 9/2: 133

CW: 14/2: 133

GW: 14/2: 130

UGW 5/3/16: 126

So, I didn't manage to reach my revised goal & actually went back up 1lb, I was close to the tipping point of going from 132 to 133 last time so I must have just sneaked back over to 133 on my scales this week. I am a tad annoyed but I am finding it more & more difficult to shift the weight, my body seems to be putting up more of a fight. Having said that, I still have to remind myself that I should appreciate how much healthier I feel. I am determined to get down to 130 before I go on holiday.

On a final note for this challenge I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all of you. I have found this challenge particularly helpful & encouraging. Your kind words about my 10k did me the world of good when I was taking part in the run & the kind sponsorship of some of you helped me smash that sponsorship goal.

See you all in the next challenge! Smiley Very Happy

Hi all,

Well, I had a rough weekend in St. Louis at a dance convention with my daughter (middle child).  Although I didn't go on a binge or anything, I also did not work out as I do when I am home.  I got in my steps, and I ran on the treadmill in the hotel gym yesterday (Sunday), but the inability to swim and do my normal workouts likely contributed to why I am up.  In addition, we ate out for both lunch and dinner Saturday and yesterday, so I know I must be retaining more water than I normally carry.  I cannot understand why I would be up 4 pounds (waaaaaah) otherwise!!  I know; it is shocking, and I am kind of ashamed (I am not extremely ashamed because I really did not eat horribly; I did have some candy for Valentine's Day--I cannot tell a lie).  Anyway, my final numbers are bleak, and now I must return to the proverbial drawing board with a big sigh.  Perhaps I haven't managed to defeat my demons, after all.  They are clearly putting up a better fight than I!!  I am going to keep trying, though.  I am going to try very hard not to throw in the towel as I have done in the past.

Missed it by 1 lousy pound......but, since I won my own personal reward challenge this week (since I was the only one allowed to participate in my own personal reward challenge), I am awarding myself a 1 lb advantage at weigh in yesterday. This puts me at 293lbs!!! YES!!!!  GOOOOOOAAAALLL!!!

I can feel myself wander a bit of schedule, especially if social events are coming up.

Next challenge, I need to watch out for that!

Great job team! Not everybody made goal, but I think most made great progress!

Let's all get on that next challenge!

Hurray! Valentine goal successfully met. I started at 183 on Jan. 05, and I reached 171 by Valentine. I didn't work too hard on it. I walked three or four times a week for 20-30 minutes and I watched my calories, making sure that I take is 500 cals less than what I burn. I tried to eat mostly veggies (salad and beans), although I did have some chicken and burgers every once in a while (burgers usually without the buns).

Now it is time to move on to my next goal. I'd like to lose 20 pounds in the next 90 days ( by May 15). Lord, Help me.

Hello everyone I'm new to this and this seems like it would be really fun to do. I really don't know how much I weigh but I'll be posting that stuff later (looking at other posts I'll be the big guy of the group). I'm really looking forward to doing this with everyone!
