Hi @Piglet0403, and CONGRATS on your weight-already-lost!

Heading into the holidays when Americans tend to gain anywhere from 1-10 lb, search for some tips that will help you overcome those obstacles! The big culprits here are desserts and alcoholic drinks, so make a few if/thens! I.e. "If there is going to be an office potluck, then I'll bring a healthy dessert, like a bowl of fruit or sugar-free poached peaches" and "If there will be alcohol involved, then I won't drink/then I'll drink gin and tonic/then I'll do only one skinny margarita/then I'll stick to club soda and lime." What I do during this time is, if there will be alcohol involved, I always immediately volunteer to be DD, even if it's just an office party and one isn't really needed. That way, people know you can't/won't drink and are far less likely to pressure you to do so.

One HUGE thing that has helped me and my husband in losing weight over the past year is a very-visual poster board with a progress graph. When we meet our goals (i.e. 5 more lbs lost, 2% body fat lost, etc), we remove a Post-It note that reveals a non-food reward that we are now able to "redeem." For instance, one of his is purchasing a new workout bag, and he was not allowed to do so until the goal was met. One of mine was going to go see a movie. And if weight is gained, there is a "payment" plan: If I gained a pound, I owe the piggy bank $5 for computer parts, or if he gains, he owes the piggy bank $5 for a Hobby Lobby trip that he has to attend 🙂

Depending on where you live, go for nature hikes! You can try putting 2-3 hikes on your calendar, and even do less "hike" and more "neighboorhood pumpkin patch with the cute dog/child/grandchild/niece/neighboor kid." I started volunteering more with the children in my church and when I host games, I average close to 20,000 steps (most of which are running)! The fall/winter is a lovely time to focus on weight loss and being outside (even if you're indoorsy like me).

Since it's getting cooler now, everyone seems to be running to their local coffee places in search of something PSL-related. My friend introduced me to the lovely salted caramel mocha blend found here. If you can't find the canned coconut milk, it's near the Oriental/Thai food aisle in most stores.

Best of luck! Enjoy the need for buying smaller clothes!

Thanks everyone. Mike I completely understand that. I have been having increased pain with my herniated. disc when moving more so not getting in a lot of steps so focusing on diet. Moving as much as possible pain wise. Finally getting diet on track after splurge for Labor day that never ended. I have surgery on Nov.4 unless something changes. Hoping I can get back on feet pretty quickly and pain free like last time to help with healing so I can get back to work. I know 30lbs is a lot but I feel up to the challenge.I am here if you need any support we can  do this. I just need to be careful around holiday sweets.Smiley Wink

So far so good. Following MFP to log calories have been consistant and scale showing changes. I have slowed on steps the last couple of weeks due to URI or cold. Sciatica still bad but light at the end of the tunnel. Surgery first of November hoping it goes as smoothly as first. Then I hope to be a lot more active once healed. Hope the slow down for healing doesn't impact goal weight loss of 30lbs we shall see. Good luck on everyone's plans on getting health

Having a good weekend feeling better at least from URI/Cold. Staying on track with calories.  Looks as though the scale is moving the right way Wensday is offical weigh in but since I weigh daily and use trendweight I am heading the right direction. Have a blessed day everyone.

Wow @Piglet0403 it seems to me that I just found a new group to join! Sometimes it can be a little difficult to start being more active, I understand that you'll be having surgery next month, I'm sure everything will be great during and after the surgery and you'll lose those 30 lbs by January 1st. 😄

I sure hope so. Kind of nervous this is the second time I have had this procedure. First time was wonderful result, until reinjured.  Hoping for similar result and turn around this time same surgeon who is a wonderful one. I am glad you found it not a lot of response but I figured at least I could post updates to myself, to keep me motivated the more the merrier. Good luck on whatever your goals may be.Smiley Happy

You wrote Ultimate Goal Weight: 150lbs

You goal is not realistic. Sorry to disappoint you but 175 lbs. would work for you best.

Please think of your health first than your weight.

My ultimate weight goal has been approved by my doctor and my nutritionist, and is not unrealistic for my height and my size.  I used to weigh 150-ish pounds just a few years ago, so I know what that looks and feels like for me as an adult.

When I say "Ultimate Goal Weight" I realize it's going to take a year or two to get there, and I'm okay with that.  My primary goal is to back down around the 200lb mark, and then however slowly the rest of it comes off is fine with me.

Proud to know we are not alone in trying to lose weight and generally feel good about ourselves.  I've discovered the power of Plexus products in weight loss and general health management.  Yes, this is an MLM business.  No, I'm not trying to scam you into giving your money.  Plexus is a real deal.  The main product is called Plexus Slim (A packet of natural ingredients mixed to a bottle of water once per day is all).  But, it changes you from the inside-out by balancing your blood sugar levels and giving you natural energy--not the kind found in a bottle promising only 5 hours energy, but the kind that lasts all day.  I am not just selling the stuff...I take it myself.  I spend over $150 per month out of pocket for the products.  You may think I just have more money than I know what to do with; not true (I'm work in human services/social work field--not known for making the big bucks).  Truth be known, this stuff works.  I've lost inches and weight without doing much in the way of exercise or eating properly.  People at work starting asking me what I was doing.  I pulled a packet of Slim out of my pocket and told them I drank that mix in water once a day.  They couldn't believe it.  Neither could I as I was a bit shocked when they told me I looked like I was losing weight!! I have a really long way to go, but I am confident Plexus is going to help me get there. If you'd like to learn more, I have a website at shopmyplexus.com/tommyvowell.  No pressure.  Just a suggestion to help all of us become the healthy people we want to become.  Ya'll have a good night!
