I've gotten out of the habit of my daily exercise and getting ready to hit 45. I would like some over 40 friends to help keep me motivated but aren't going all out crazy. Right now just trying to reach my 10k steps a day while working at a desk job all day.

I did so horrible last week. I just got my weekly stats and was 8000!! steps lower than the week before! My eating was crazy too. My mood is a mess too so I'm sure it all goes hand in hand. I DID pack a healthy lunch today and had a good breakfast. I'll just keep plugging along. ..

Last week was bad for me, too. However, I got up early this morning and lifted weights and ran so I'm 1-1.

It's just a matter of striving to improve always, I guess. 🙂
Here's to a great week, @robguitar! LOL

I guess we all have good weeks and bad weeks. My stats for last week are definitely going to be worse than those for the week before because I had one exceptionally good day and am not likely to match that anytime soon. In fact, this Saturday, I just did not feel like doing my walking videos and ended up about 3,000 steps shy of my 10,000 goal.
We're all going to have setbacks, but that we get right back up and keep going is what matters.

Just remember, tomorrow is a new day with new opportunities. Try to spend your energy on tomorrow instead of on yesterday (at times really easier said than done).

Hi @KerriS,
I'm 48 years of age and decided to get fit this year as well. I work a day job all day and then try to get my walks in each early evening to try and get back in shape. I started with a low number (5000 steps per day) and have been increasing it by 1000 steps per week. I figured this gave me a goal I could achieve instead of getting dejected if I could not get the 10000 steps per day.
If your looking for more over 40's to motivate you, feel free to add me as a fitbit friend. Heck, if any of you want to add me I would be delighted as ike all people, I have some days/weeks where I fly through my regime, and other days I am not so motivated.
Yesterday was a low point for me, I weighed over .6 kg (600 grams) heavier after a hard workout the day before. So in the morning I was dejected and went for the Tim Tams until I shook myself out of it and pushed myself to exceed my target by 2000 steps to make up for the 2 or 3 tim tams. 🙂

I keep reminding myself that as long as my clothes fit more loosely, it doesn't matter what the scale says. I wish I could remember where I saw this piece on a woman's transformation--she looks so much fitter in the "after" picture, but she only lost.....
...two pounds. So I won't worry overmuch what the scale says. Well, at least I'll try not to worry too much.

OK, Wednesday. How is everybody doing? I'm 3-3 and sore but I'm committed to achieving my goal for the week. I'm not bragging, just being accountable.
Have a great day!

@Esya I didn't know that about visualization with Yoga, although it makes sense given how much it used to help me with sports. I'll try that. I also got the all clear from my physical therapist to try a few things as long as I'm not forcing anything. So I will incorporate some of the gentler Yoga moves into my routine.
@Wyllyam I'll definitely keep the mat in mind when it comes time to get the desk. I remember how brutal a hard floor can be on standing feet from the days I worked retail.
I'm actually kind of proud of how I recovered from the stomach virus from hell. For three days I didn't track or count anything. I just drank coconut water to replenish electrolytes and ate bone broth and other easily digestible foods until I felt like I had successfully worked back up to solids. We went to Mardi Gras this year. I had some king cake. I also had some shrimp remoulade and a New Orleans style roast beef sandwich. But I tracked all the calories, ate in moderation, and managed to drop .2 lbs on top of the weight I had lost while ill. Plus we walked all over the place, so I'm sure that helped.
It was really freeing to realize that yes, I truly can eat what I want as long as I'm honest about my intake and balance it with smaller meals and lower sodium foods the rest of the time. I also turned down a LOT of food on the trip, but it didn't feel bad or like I was missing out. I chose what sounded best to me and gave a pass on the rest. I see maintenance as being a lot like that, too, just with a somewhat higher calorie allowance.

Hi @KerriS: I would like to add my 2 cents to it. I will be 47 in few months and I am juggling things single handedly. I have two people who depend on me (My 8 yr old daughter and my mom). I am selfish in my health/fitness regime. My policy is I have to take care of myself FIRST in order to take care of them. (basically If I don't have good health or sick all the time, how would I support them?) So this changed my mindset. If I want to go for a run, I started to train my brain at least 24 hrs ahead of that run. When the time comes, there won't be any hesitation. I also pushed my mom, brother and sisters to have Fitbit tracker and added them as friends and challenge them once in a while.
Still I am going strong... Hopefully I will do it as long as I have that mindset.
Good luck.

I would suggest finding an activity other than working out in the gym to be your motivation. For myself, it's basketball. At 40, I'm regularly playing with kids in the 16-22 range. This has motivated me to spend more time in the weight room and pounding the pavement, so I can keep up.

Hi, fellow over 40s and honorary over 40s who are not over 40 but hanging out with the cool kids anyway. 😉
I hope your week is going well, and that even if it's not you are able to find one thing that you like about your fitness and dietary choices today. I am dealing with a nasty cold after just finally getting over norovirus, so I am back to not religiously tracking food but eating to stay nourished and not really being able to exercise right now. Frustrating, but better than pushing it and delaying recovery even longer. Been there, done that, and passed on the t-shirt, because it was ugly.
The flowers are coming out without me right now, and I'm watching the robins out the window instead of walking in their midst. I'm excited that there will be all sorts of changes to enjoy when I'm back outdoors again, and very soon more daylight hours in which to do it. I'm itching to get back in the kayak. What are you guys looking forward to?

Hi FrogMystic,
Hopefully you will be back on your feet again soon once you are fully recovered.
For me the days are getting shorter and we have just entered into Autumn, so I'm seeing a lot of trees starting to lose their leaves and the weather cooling off. It's nice to see nature change as the season changes.
I've been hitting my exercise goals, and water goals. I'm still working on the calorie goals although I've stopped eating takeaway and started eating healthy home cooked meals again, so I'm hoping that will take care of itself. (I'm not tracking my calorie intake) My weight has stabilised this week, so I just have to work out how to kick it along to lose more weight as I'm well above my normal weight. My focus is burning more calories.
I'm most looking forward to the change in weather as I prefer cooler temperatures. The shorter days may be an issue for exercise, but I guess I can buy a headlamp. 🙂
Anyway, have a great day and I wish you a speedy recovery.

I've have been so bad about my food as of late but I HAVE increased my daily steps so I'm counting that has a "Yea".
I'm so ready to get back in my kayak too, @FrogMystic. We moved to a house that is right across the street from the lake so I can NOT wait!!

@beedub, thank you for the kind words and well wishes. Autumn is a beautiful season, too. Going into cooler weather is always good incentive to be out and active. I'm glad to hear you've made some healthy changes. I don't know about you, but I genuinely feel better when I don't eat out as much. We pay for that convenience in a lot of ways, unfortunately.
@KerriS congrats on the increased steps and the move! I don't live quite that close to the lake, but it's a less than five minute drive. Hitting the water for the first time after winter is always magical. What kind of yak do you have?
