Stomping September 2017 (Step) Goal Challenge

ANSWERED

Stomping September 2017 (Step) Goal Challenge

How It Works:
The purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for September 2017. This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 30 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 30.

Optional
3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.
4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 30.

The optional items list has grown over the past months. That's why the title has steps in (). In the end it's about setting goals and improving habits. So the optional items can really be anything. Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc. Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you might be aiming for a number that is less than 30 for some goals -- maybe 5, 10, or 15. Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I congratulate you for doing the bike commute. If you give it a chance, you may find yourself riding more this winter than you think.  Of course you need bike lighting, and you will need to layer up (I like the nicer base layer underwear you can find at places like REI, and prefer the thinner stuff, which, while not as warm, I can keep on at work so I don't have to change).  I don't (usually) ride in the snow, it doesn't seem to snow as much in the DC/Baltimore as people think.  We have some good ones every once and a while, but usually it is the cold rather than the snow/ice that can be a problem.  And you kind build up your own heat when riding.  Good gloves including thin liners are important for that.  (I have more than one bike. So I can put studded tires on the "backup" in the winter and will use that if we have snow accumulation that stays around for a while or results in several days of the melt refreeze cycle that generates black ice).

I usually miss 6 - 7 riding days over the winter because of ice or snow accumulation, but most days it's not really a problem.

Great advice, thanks! I will definitely keep it up and see if I can keep it up thru the winter. After all, if you can do it in DC/Baltimore, I should be able to do Southern Indiana. haha.

Oh I"m terrible at posting. I think because last week I feel off the wagon...hard. I got my run/walks in but nothing else. Although last Friday I walked 19k steps (we went to a show in the french quarter and parked REALLY far away from the venue) and Saturday I walked 12k (went to a beer fest and walked to the venue from my house - it was far, but better than circling looking for a parking spot for 30 minutes). I don't really understand it, I feel like I'm not getting as many steps on my run/walks and I did initially. Maybe because it's starting to be more running and less walking? I don't know what's going on there but it just means I need to walk extra. I also need to start going on a walk in the time that on the other days I do my run/walk. It's just so hot and miserable it's hard to go outside for even 5 minutes. Maybe October will be better, or at least a little cooler

September

10k steps/day for 30 days - 13/30

2. Run/walk 3 days a week - 12 days - 9/12

3. 5 squats/day for 30 days - 17/30

4. Lose 4 lbs - Starting weight is 164 - be down to 160 by the end of the month

Need to catch up on posting after a nice Birthday weekend.  No fancy dinners, but did have a great pizza from Pizza John's -- a Baltimore area classic pizza joint.  For a while we were eating pizza once a week.  Been losing weight in 2017 and probably had 4 or 5 times so far this year.  Not having it much lately made it a great Birthday treat.

1) 10,000 steps per day

2) 25/25

3) 45 minutes of exercise a day

4) 22/25. I'm so disappointed; I missed yesterday by one freaking minute, but it was hot outside (I was walking in the park), and I was a bit tired.

Almost the end of the month! I got most of my run in today, but it was so blasted hot I'm going to try again tomorrow and Saturday to get my final two runs in this week. I did better on my squats and a little better on my steps. I've met my goal so far this week on Mon and Today (Thurs). Yesterday was spent holding a sick baby most of the day so I'm proud that I made it to 5k. At the end of the month I'll post my totals for each day.

September 25-28

10k steps/day for 30 days - 15/30

2. Run/walk 3 days a week - 12 days - 10/12

3. 5 squats/day for 30 days - 20/30

4. Lose 4 lbs - Starting weight is 164 - be down to 160 by the end of the month

Best Answer

1) 10,000 steps per day

2) 28/28

3) 45 minutes of exercise a day

4) 25/28. I did a ten-minute exercise video around 9:00 just to ensure I got my 45 minutes. My Alta doesn't count when I'm taking barre classes, and adding them manually mucks up the count.

Yes, it was/is fun. Heart of the Ozarks here, rolling hills, bluffs, lots
of creeks and small rivers, hardwood forests and lots of wildlife.

We take these week long "camps" about 5 times a year now that we are
retired. Two more weeks coming up yet this fall. We have lots of National
Forest near our house to ride in.

What a week!

10/26 steps 10.2, 32 floors, 4.6 miles

10/27 steps 10.7, 10 floors, 4.9 miles, this was a "town" day, glad to make my step goal

10/28 Now this is sad 🙂 steps 9,946, floors 17, 4.49 miles! Did I really go to bed just 54 steps short of my goal?!

Have not taken a dedicated walk for over a week now, that will change today.

Let me know what the October challange is going to be called!
