Trying to get started again

Advice needed!! Hey guys! So, I'm 18 years old and a freshman in college. My sophomore year of high school I dropped 40 pounds so quickly, and looked and felt great. However, throughout my junior and senior years of high school I fell into bad habits of poor eating with a new boyfriend, as well as a major contributor being depression inhibiting me from exercising to full capacity. I have since gained a significant amount of weight--around 60 pounds-- and I really just want to feel like myself again! I constantly think about my weight and food, and I really would like some advice from the Fitbit community about how to get in the right mindset to not (unrealistically) demand immediate results from myself. Also, I need help in how to maintain motivation and not fall off track, because I have been trying to get a hold of myself now for years and it has been hard. I just really would appreciate any sort of advice at all that anyone could share. I am a seasoned athlete--I was a 3-season athlete throughout high school, so it's not even like exercise is new to me. Help me please! Also feel free to add me as a friend! Thanks so much

Hey @alyssadevlin welcome to the forums. You are not alone in your struggle. Losing weight and keeping it off is a mind game more than a physical one. Your body will do whatever you tell it to, the question becomes what do you tell it. That's the motivation, staying on the wagon factor. Eating right, counting calories, burning calories-  most of us know how to do that. Its the willpower to actually do it. Find your motivator. It doesn't have to be good health.. it could be because I want to rock that pair of jeans or I want to make him crazy with how awesome I am or I need to look good for the party in six months. Whatever it is- find it, latch on and get busy.

Welcome @alyssadevlin. I agree with @emili. You can't do this for anyone but you so find your motivation and focus on that and the rest will become manageable. My motivation is to be able to keep up with my 2 year old grandson - not an easy task! 😀  When I need a reason to continue I just look at his picture and then it's easy to say no to that muffin or donut. Good luck and remember that we are here for you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
