Weight Loss: 80+ pounds to lose!!

Hi, I'm new to the site and I have tried unsuccessfully to lose weight and keep it off. I've come to the conclusion that I need lots and lots of support and motivation to actually be successful and make this life style change stick! I need buddies to help me through my wt. loss journey! If you are out there and in the same boat give me a shout out and we can work together and help each other be more successful!!!!!

@Alecia Thanks.  Guess what?  I did over 14,000 steps yesterday!  I just went on a hike with people to pick up trash and then played my tennis match..  I couldn't believe it when my fitbit called me an over achiever!  It was a nice suprise and I know I can do this.  Just need the consistency.  Why is it so dang hard?

The longer I have my fitbit flex, the more I love it. I tell everyone to buy one. I have found that just wearing it serves as a visual reminder of my goals and that keeps me from eating what I shouldn't and gets me moving even though I don't want to...  Up until now, I have only used it to monitor steps and sleep, but now I am starting to log my food and water intake too - something I have never been good at doing.

Hi Alecia My name is Tarsha I'm in the same boat your in.  i have tried everything there is to try.  i have spent so much money on pills, shakes, equipment & gym memberships.  I just started trying to eat clean instead of dieting. And so far I lost 3lbs.  I struggle a lot at night though.  For instance last night i ate 1180 calories so I was good until I ate 3 oreo cookies. I have to learn to ignore my cravings.

Hi!  I've tried all of that stuff to and eating right and working out is what it takes.  Burning more than you take in is key!!. If you know you want 3 oreos plan for it and count it and move on, thats what normal people do. We have to learn it's ok to have stuff like that sometimes.  When we deprive is when we fall hard.

@LaurenRN85 Thank you for the tips! You are totally right, I need to commit to spending the time on myself. I started to realize that there are only so many hours of the day and really started to think about the choices I was making about how to spend my time. With the schedule I am on, I have very little time to myself. By the time I get off work, run errands, cook dinner, clean up, etc, I have maybe an hour or two to relax before I have to get to bed. Usually this time is spent in my recliner playing on my laptop. So I read your post the other day and it really resonated with me. I am doing great with watching my caloric intake but if I want to keep my weight loss momentum going, I need to ramp up my exercise time. I decided that I am going to reprioritize how I spend my time. Instead of spending that hour or two on the computer, I am going to the gym after work every day, then running errands, cook dinner, etc. I get heartburn really bad if I go to bed soon after eating, but I have been having big salads for dinner so that hasn't been an issue yet. I had been doing alot of your other suggestions (taking the stairs, parking further away, etc) but I really needed to make that committment to myself. It's been a few days now, and I am really tired and sore, but in a good way. I lost 3 pounds this week (Yay!) so I am really motivated to keep it up. Thank you for the great advice! You were spot-on!

Hi Clodagh!

I just read your post...I live in Virginia...not far from Washington DC.  I am taking a trip in June to Dublin.  I am super excited because I have never been.  My dad was just there last year.  This year my dad is taking me and my two daughters (10, 13).  Can't wait.

How is the exercising going?  I just got the fitbit flex and have been trying to work out and lose weight on my own.  So far, down 14 lbs....and now only 40 to go!

Would love to hear from you.  Best of luck!!
