As a rule of thumb, you lose body fat when you lose weight, and you gain body fat when you gain weight. How much of the weight loss/gain comes from fat depends on a number of factors, like how fast you’re gaining/losing, what you are eating, what physical activity you are doing (or not doing), how much sleep you are getting etc.
If you have a scale that estimates body fat %, you shouldn’t be looking at fluctuations day to day (oh, I lost 1 pound of fat since yesterday, or I gain 0.5 pound of muscle since two days ago), but rather as changes over longer periods of time.

Meaningful changes in body composition occur over several months, not days.
