looking for friends - 50s and female and getting fabulous!

Hi!  I'm looking for some friends for motivation and support.  I'm 51, female, and working on losing 30 lbs.  My A1c is pre-diabetic so I'm shedding some weight to try and get it under control.

Anyone?

I am not sure if you have to do anything more. These instructions were in an earlier post, "If you want to share your steps and see how others are doing you can click on the person's name on one of their posts. Then in the upper left by the profile picture click on go to profile. Once at profile, in the same area it will have add friend button." I haven't done that yet but do check in on the posts each day and get alot of motivation to keep with the program by knowing so many others are working hard at meeting their goals for daily steps and food plan if they are trying to lose weight.

I haven't been walking much....have had a lot of stress at work and then had a stress neck and backache...came home today with a killer headache...had a glass of wine and now ready to fall asleep.  I'll get back on soon though...

A thought comes to mind, and I've talked to a physical therapist about this.  If your body is having troubles (pain, inflammation, etc) with pavement running, have you given thought to wearing a belt that helps you stay neutral in the water, and "running" in a pool at the gym?  You'd be needing the deep end where you can't touch ground.  You will be doing the motions of running but no impact. Let me know what you think, and if you try it, how it went for you.

I turned 50 this year and am back to trying to lose weight.  Doesn't seem like much when you are in your 20s or 30s and you gain a pound or 2 a year, but post menapause? oh yeah, what fun Smiley Frustrated

An interesting turn is my activity has gone way down since I have yet another stress fracture on my foot (gesh I wonder if being overweight could have anything to do with that).  So, I'm back at the beginning and will slowly attack this.

I'd love to get back to 8k steps a day, but that'll have to wait until the boot comes off!

Just an post to encourage folks in the group wanting to lose weight.  I  have achieved my first goal of losing 50 pounds.  My next goal is 35 pounds,  and I am thinking ahead to make sure that I don't let holiday goodies or Minnesota weather  derail my progress.  I walk everyday  and strength train, which helps boost my energy levels.  The kitchen is where weight loss happens though,  and I religiously keep a journal of my food intake.   I take it one day at a time and strive to make the best choices I can in my efforts to realize my fitness and nutrition goals.   The weight loss is just a side effect of becoming fitter,  it is nice but feeling better and not 10 years older than I am is the real reward.

Like any other weightloss plan, you have to make it a lifestyle change.  This is my second year to be using the fitbit- and I still LOVE it.  Friends come and go, but the ones that stick around see a need and continue to work and create healthy habits.  Keep walking!!!

Turned 50 in April and am trying to lose about 30 pounds. I have arthritis in my hips and rods in my back so exercise that doesn't aggravate things has been difficult to find. However, I recently joined a gym (benefit of new job) and have been swimming and running laps in the pool. So, much better than walking on hard pavement. I'm really enjoying myself and since I start the day with it before work it sets the tone for my entire day mentally and food-wise. Would love to be friends with people who are working on the same things and moving forward with their goals. We all need encouragement : ) Tracy

Hello,

I just bought my fitbit for my birthday this last week. 51! I need to lose 50-60 lbs and really want to do it this time. My huge downfall is night time grazing as well. When I finally have the house to myself- I want to snack. Trying to find anything else to  avoid doing this! I have tried so many things, WW a million times! But the Fitbit makes me want to hit that 10K every day!

I am 51 and also prediabetic. My mother passed away from Alzheimers which is thought to be brought on by an inactive lifestyle and sugar issues. I do not want to follow in her footsteps. I need to loose between 40 and 50 lbs, and I would love to friend some of the 50 and over people. I do not know how to do this. Please either friend me, if you are interested, or instruct me on how to friend people. Thanks!

My strategy regarding snacking is that I don't eat anything after 8PM. I wish I could say that I have tremendous will power but I don't , so I make sure that I have low sugar fruit, prepared veggies and low fat protein available in the refrigerator. I am able to not have foods in the house that are not healthy choices so that makes it easier. I have shifted my thinking about food to "eating to live". I try to make deliberate choices in my eating plan that support my goal to become healthier. If I am tempted to over indulge with even the healthier choices I think about how many miles I would need to walk to burn those calories and I stop and think about why am I looking for snack, is it because I am bored or am I truly hungry. If I do snack I make sure that I open my food journal and record the snack.
