Hi. Just got started and I'm on day 3.

I'm motivated right now because I have a very special event at the end of the month.

I plan to do 10 000 steps per day, to help me lose weight. Managed to do this 3 days so far!

I'm recovering from back injury and I'm told walking is the best way to recupe. So this looks like the fitbit will work for me.

Hi I just set up my Charge HR today and while it was sitting on the counter being synced it calculated 540 calories burned. Why would it do that and how can I edit it back to 0?

Welcome to Fitbit, rubygirl! I find the forums very helpful. Two specific reasons come to mind immediately:

1. The Help forum is a good place to find out more about your fitbit and to ask questions, if you have them. Here is the link: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Help-Forums/ct-p/product

2. The Discussion forum is where I go to get motivated. I can read or join in the discussions ... hear from people who are just like -- trying to stay healthy or get into a healthier life style. The Fitbit is all about moving. And in these discussions, we talk about how to stay motivated, how to eat the right foods, and more.

The Fitbit unit itself is great. It helps to motivate me to keep moving. But the Help and Discussion boards complete the experience for me. I'm not alone. There are people here to help me along my journey to better health. I believe it can do the same for you, too.

Try it out for a couple weeks. Read the posts. Reply to some of them. Vote for the posting you find helpful. Then come back here and tell us what you think.

Heya folks! A brand new member owning a CHR here. Super duper delighted! Sport for me was being in my mancave few hours few days a week after a terrible cycling injury. Ever since I've got my CHR, walking is now a sport. Just need a little boost to have more walking sessions now. Cheers and have a healthy weekend everyone! 🙂

Hi V8 --- bummer on the injury but you know that any body movement is a
great thing! I have found my fitbit(I went cheap and oldschool with the
One) is a good motivator -- and once you start moving and have a little OCD
then you'll keep shooting for your goals -- it's a great feeling --
especially when you get down or a little depressed thinking about "what
was" --- today is today -- Keep moving for yourself!!!

Take care and continued healthy recovery!

Hi @Foccy36

See how many steps you are able to do easily on a normal day. Increase the total steps by example 2000. When that goes to easy, increase more over time.

When not used to walking so much, don't force your body, when feeling tired and not able to reach the goal. Listen to your wonderful body and allow yourself to rest instead. As long when being active, that's what counts, regardless of needing to reach the certain goal.

On the dashboard, when hovering over the tile with the total steps.. clicking the gear icon allows to adjust the total steps for the daily goal.. to suit your needs (setting the total steps to a amount you desire).

Welcome, the fitbit is only half of it, you need to watch what you eat as well

You could do 100000 running steps everyday, but if your calorie intake is higher than what you burn and need, it will be for nothing or just decreasing how much your weight increases

@Stefan has a good point, ive herd horrer stories from people who felt the need to get 10,000 steps in from the starting line. After the 3rd day they where visiting the ER with a sprain or broken bone.

My neighbor after getting a Fitbit and was haveing trouble gettinf 800 steps a day, She did what she could, adding a few more each day, after a week she was able to add a thousand a day and at the 2 week point did 13K in a day.

Be patient the steps will come.

Just put the Fitbit in and do your normal thing for a week, maybe an extra small walk a day.

@SunsetRunner also has a good point, incresing your activity will also increase your bodies craving for more calories, if you dont monitor your input, you will be eating more.

i had no desire to monitor calories, and only had about 30 pounds to lose, i monitor my portions,l and am down 25 pounds, and 4 inches in the waist.

They say weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. I find the exercise benifits my mind and outlook more than my body.

Hello! I received my Charge HR last week and i absolutely love it! Im still learning things here and there but other than that, the set up was easy. I had tried other fit trackers and was severely disappointed in them. The Charge HR fits my needs to a "T"

Hi I'm new to this . I got the flex and love it. I'm just a little confused. Cal in and Cal out I got it in the green with my super but it saying i have 424 calories left. If I eat the 425 cal will it go out of the green. I do get my steps in everyday at work. I'm glad at that  I'm just trying to figure this out with the color code in the food.

@Grandmagege lets see if i can help some.

Have you set up a relistic weight goal and a period to reach it?

Yes cal in is what you eat and cal out is what you burn, fitbit wants to see a calorie deficit that will get you to your weight goal in your time period.

Green is good, red you is over, yellow is under.

i will assume that when you eat the day is not over and when fitbit says you need to eat more it is counting the calories it knows that youll burn between now and tonight. Since you havent burnt them yet, you could very well go in the red by eating them.

Now lets look at what calories you burn, and Fitbit tracks.

First thing your Fitbit counts your BMR or Basic Metabolism Rate, these are what your body burns to keep you alive, while sitting in a chair.

Now it then adds the calories you burn from the activities you do.

Anyway during the day it is normal for your cal in/out to go between the 3 colors. You might eat more so you can go for that 2 hour walk.
