I have a flex. Want to upgrade to something that records floors since I hike the sierra's and would like to track elevation. I am in the US - Reno, Nevda.

Kazzyp - Hello to you, in the UK! Thank you for reaching out and all. Not thinking "globally," I guess. In the USA. On a world map, you might be able to see what we call the Great Lakes, largest body of fresh water in the world, I believe. Anyway, Being just south of Canada, if you look at the southernmost Lake Erie, then the southernmost part of that, you'll see within a few miles/kilometers of where I live.

So not much chance to meet. But if you'd like to be online friends, I'm game. I'm pretty sure there is a way to do that but not just sure how yet. I don't consider myself particularly competitive but would be interested in seeing how others, including yourself, are doing. That being said, I got the Fitbit Surge, thinking it would be more than just mere steps. Of course it is. While I like the GPS and heart rate features, I had that with the Nike Sportwatch. Arguably, that may be better for just running or power-walking as I do. But the Surge can also help in monitoring fitness activities at the local gym and all day long.

Does that help where I'm at geographically and activity-wise? How about yourself?

Mamabear63 - Having had your Fitbit a few months puts you ahead of me. I've had mine only a few days. But I've been power-walking on and off for years. When first presented with an opporunity to compete with others, I thought I'd beat them all. However, I discovered even on days I compete in a 5K my total steps were well below 10,000 steps more often than not. Most days I worked in a factory I exceed that. Now that I've retired, it again appears reaching 10K steps won't be happened much of the time.

Even so, I feel my Surge does make me aware of activity and will help me keep more active. Just today, I even used it to "time" a Yoga class. It was a surprise that feature is built-in, even if mostly just a label.

Karen - You don't know where the USA is? Or perhaps you didn't yet get my previous message. When I click on "Post" I presume it fulfills my starting with Reply to your message. Last month was record cold. And we had a fair amount of snow too. As I really much prefer warmer weather over cold, I've not been out much for any kind of run since last fall. Just a few sprinkles here today. At least my Surge and I are beginning to get out more. Possibly, that last message was to someone else and ended up as a general post. Time will tell!

Craig - How nice of you to suggest everyone give feedback to the community so others can better learn what works for others. Although if good for one, that doesn't necessarly mean good for everyone. Hopefully thought, it will be better than everyone winging it entirely on their own . . .

MikeBuck -  Having had my Fitbit Surge only a few days, I'm still learning. At first, I had NO stairs registered, which seemed right. Yesterday, I did some moderately-fast walking on an indoor track and added some stair climbs to it now and then. Surprisingly, it did register and even said I became elegible for some sort of recognition since I exceeded 10 floors. Frankly, I was wondering if it would register hill climbs accurately. If you are in hilly terrain, I'd be interested to learn how it eventually works for you.

If you think you want to stay loyal to Fitbit, you might not have to step all the way up to their Surge. I think the Charge can register them as well. Check out the specs before puchasing anything, as I'm sure you will. I know there are other brands that can record elevations. But I'm liking what it seems Fitbit is trying to do. If you'd like, I'd welcome hearing what you decide to do.

Hi all! Relatively new to Fitbit but not to the weight loss journey! Had my Flex for a couple of weeks now and I have to say I love it! Only myself and my husband have them within our friend circle so I would love to make some new Fitbit friends from the UK and around the globe. I'm not really tracking my steps as I mostly sit at a desk every day but the calorie burn stats are brilliant for keeping me motivated to hit my goals each day. Feel free to add me!

TheresaJ - I'm new to this as well . . . but have a few days on you. Communities seem great. Great that you got your Charge HR all set up. You might see areas to tweak here and there once you better understand how things are affected. Support also seems good. So you have places to find answers, which you'll likely come up with now and then. Hope you can now better reach your goals. Some prefer going solo. But most like to exchange ideas and compete with others to better judge their own progress. Have fun with it all.

My Fit Bit records the change in elevation as a stair. I don't know how
much elevation equals a stair, but it seems about right when compared with
the stairs at my work.
