Its all a bit baffling at the moment. I cant get the app to work on my phone (it wont let me log in) and it doesnt look like I can sync my phone (calls etc) with the Charge, which was one of the reasons I bought it!! SIGH!!

I think joining challenges is beyond me at the moment, but maybe once I'm set up properly??

Cheers

Hey Rich...sorry, but my Charge HR isn't tracking the 12 flights of stairs I walked today.  Instead, it recorded 4 flights.  Any suggestions?

Just got the Charge and so far so good!  Look forward to focusing on cardio orientated workouts and less resistance training (should is pretty much hashed out).  Look forward to meeting others and crancking my miles and steps back up to good levels.  Smiley Wink

Hi. There's a minimum amount of calories you burn being human each day. Fit
bit logs that for you

Give it a while to see how things settle. As pointed out, it will show
calories just from normal at rest times. Soon you will see how they've put
things in perspective. Running may be one of the more intense activities.
But the app/software will point out how many of your calories are from a
designated activity. That is one of the advantages of wearing a tracker
most of the day. You might not consider walking around while shopping,
getting the mail and the like as exercise. But without doing more than
wearing a "watch" it will figure that into the mix.

Conversely, when I first began tracking steps I figured I'd have steps way
beyond the minimal 10,000 a day often targeted. After all, I train for and
compete in 5K races. For rough figuring, if your stride is a yard and there
are 1,760 yards in a mile, a 5K, being about 3.1 miles wouldn't even get me
half way there. Indeed, most days I do not get to 10,000.

So what are we supposed to achieve? Everyone is different. As for me,
asking my doctor suggested I exercise intensely enough to get my heart rate
over 130 beats per minute for 30 minutes three or four times a week. Not
having weight management as a goal makes that sound simple enough. Hope
this helps. - Ron

Welcome to the Fitbit family everyone!

@Steph806 The data you're seeing is a guestimate of your historical caloric burn. Although Fitbit doesn't have activity recorded at that time, we can base your caloric burn activity (before you've had a tracker) via your BMR.

Your Fitbit will reset at midnight every night, clearing your data for the day; however you still burn calories while you sleep or rest, so the data you see is your estimated calorie burn for the day or BMR, it is estimated using your age, gender, height and weight.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions Smiley Very Happy

Hello Everyone, I am new to the community today but have used the Flex since March 29, 2015. This device helps me stay motivated, I am a retired GEEK, spend most of my time on the computer. The Flex has made a significant change in our lives, my wife tells everyone about Flex! Keep steppin' - Tim

Lots of peeps around here near retirement age. I'd think you'd all be in a group or something. Anyways, I'm also somewhat new to Fitbit, having had my Surge and Aria only about a month. Still learning about it and the Communities. Slow learner! And yesterday I finally got a Charge HR for my wife. So by the time summer comes around we might motivate each other a bit. She had never done any exercise; it was me that told her she should get at least an HR monitor so she can know if putting in enough effort when walking or whatever. As with most things, slow and steady wins over fast and short-lived success and/or injuries. I've read Perception of Effort isn't nearly as reliable an indicator as heart rate. She'll never be a runner. And that's OK. Everyone should do what appeals to them. The best exercise in the world (whatever that might be) is of NO value if you don't care to do it. Forcing yourself to tough it up will likely result in giving it all up. Happy stepping or whatever your thing is out there everyone!

I got my Flex thru Weight Watchers. I have a few issues and a couple of questions:

#1. Fitbit isn't counting floors. I must run (okay  walk/limp) up and down the stairs a dozen times a day.

#2. Fitbit says I'm sleeping 11+ hours a day. Seeing as I barely get 5 if I'm lucky, something must be off (or maybe on?). Help!

#3. Is there a list of activities that are built into Fitbit? I've found a few pages that tell me I can browse activities, but I can't find where I'm supposed to browse. Searching asks me if I want to Create custom activity.

#4). When I enter 15 minutes of pilates (I actually do Physical Therapy exercises) on Fitbit it says I've burned 60 calories but I don't get any points. When I enter 15 minutes of pilates on Weight Watchers Activity Tracker I get 2. What am I doing wrong?

nwmariposa - Congratulation on getting your new Flex. My device is the Surge. So I'm not certain about your issues. But try the following with the hope you will come across success for most of them.

1. It should count "Floors" even if you are walking up a hill that is high enough. Possibly, you are wearing it too loosely on your wrist and/or not high enough. Unless you are doing intense exercise, just snug should be enough. But try putting it higher up on your wrist -- about three fingers above your wrist bone.

2. Sometimes sleep registration isn't accurate. If the above doesn't help, try turning heart rate or other settings to always On instead of Auto and see if that helps. Once things are working well, you can then try to switch some back until you find the culprit. Using auto takes less energy from the battery since it isn't turned on 24/7.

3. On my Surge I go to Workout. You can then start with that, generic, activity. Instead, select only once then swipe/look for other activities under that. Select THAT choice, then start when ready. My Surge can have up to seven (7) activities from which to choose. Within the computer software/app it can change which seven are available. Pilates and Yoga are among those that appeared during initial setup. While it is possible to create custom programs, it's easier to use what is provided so you won't have to go in and manually change. In effect you're changing with the device.

4. I'm not sure what you are referring to by "points." Possibly different programs use different values for points. My Surge provides heart rate average, calories burned and similar basic information on the device. More detail is available once downloaded and viewed on my PC. Most likely cell phones and tablets will also do that if those are what you use.

From what I know, the Flex doesn't do as much as the Surge. Don't give up on it. Reaching out to the Community will hopefully provide other assistance. Failing that, definitely contact Fitbit directly. Answers typcially are in a couple of days online. Quicker response by phone most days might be better. of course, your device could be defective. It happens. I've heard Fitbit is good on replacing devices if needed.

Let me know how it turns out for you. At first I had some issues as well. My experience has shown Fitbit to be responsive and knowledgeable. Incidentally, I also use their Aria. Weight management isn't of primary concern for me. But I did want to be aware of aspects along those lines. It's a bit pricey. But once set up it seamlessly will transmit weight, percentage of body fat and BMI to the software, making it convenient to have your data easily accessible in one place. You can also customize your home page with items you want or delete those you don't. And what are most important can be arranged at the top, etc.

Hope this helps. - Ron

Hi Ron
Thank you for your help. It started working yesterday then this morning not, so I don't know what's going on.
Because I purchased it on line from a large company I don't have a receipt so I can't take it back. I have emailed Fitbit and I'm waiting for a response.
