Activities Logged, but not as Exercise

So I'm a little confused and not sure if my fitbit one is working as it should.

Before I exercise, I hold the button to get into Activity Mode and see the timer start. I hold it back down after I'm finished and see the total exercise time. This has accurately reflected when I sync my fitbit under Log > Activities. I am okay with how that is working, however, I find it curious that Activities do not appear to be "Exercise". Is there a reason why my ONE is tracking activities but I have to manually enter Exercise if I want any in the Exercise section of my app or web app dashboard?

Acitivity page

Above: Two Activity entries accurately logged

Mobile App

Above Active Minutes recorded (I agree and understand active minutes mostly) but No exercise logged?

No recent exercise? why?

Above Current dashboard showing No recent exercises?

Thank you TW for seeing my point. Your knowledge of the products being discussed is indeed a big help in my understanding the way the fitbits work.

So if I track a walk or run with the activity mode on the device there is no way to tell the Fitbit app/website that it is a walk and have it included in both active minutes and as an exercise? Is it better to track the run/walk via the app or via another app (Such as Map My Run, etc.,)? I just switched from a Jawbone exercise tracker to the Fitbit One and with Jawbone an exercise can count as both active minutes and as an exercise so I'd like my Fitbit the track both. Essentially I could go into the app and designate a specific active time was a specific kind of activity. I like being able to see how much I had worked out for the week. It sounds to me like for step-based activities the Fitbit cannot count active minutes as exercise because the app/website is essentially programmed not to in order to encourage people to buy newer & more expensive products. I understand that this is not an exercise tracker, its a pedometer, but it should be able to track activities as exercise for step-based workouts.

Now, I don't mind logging things manually, but it sounds like the activity log is a waste of a feature if you can't really use it to log an exercise... It would be very  nice if you could go onto the fitbit website and designate the activity as a specific kind of exercise from a database to sort of integrate the manual logging with the activity tracker. The main issue with manual logging seems to be that it adds steps to the day that you didn't take. I suppose I'm just disappointed that it is impossible to truly track exercise on the app with the Fitbit one since you can only track non-step activities as manually adding step-based activities artificially modifies your step count. :'(

The timed exercise on the One will show up in the fitbit dashboard online(website) but not in your app(tablet or phone). That is why i don't use the One for my treadmill or any other timed activities as it requires manual logging in order to credit me with an exercise count. Not sure though about tracking it using other aps or why the tablet app is programmed that way. I'm not a programmer so i can't really say why this can't be fixed. Maybe not enough people are requesting this as the One is mostly used as a pedometer and not as an exercise tracker.

Not sure what you mean here but i am able to log my exercises manually it's just that i prefer to have my timed exercises credited automatically like my other fitbits(charge and alta). yes it would be great if we can designate an activity to be more specific so as get the most accurate count.

My main issue with manual logging is that it adds an extra step that i am not willing to do all the time. As far as accuracy is concerned i don't really mind being off a few steps more or less as long as the tracking is consistent. And i find the fitbit algorithms tracking to be fairly accurate based on my estimation.

I am only recounting my experience, albeit a very limited one as i have only started wtih Fitbit around 4Q of 2015. I am sure someone more knowledgeable will step in to add to this discussion.
