I purchased a FitBit One this past week and it arrived yesterday in the mail. I was excited to use it, so I charged it, synced it to the application on my phone and then wore it for the first time today. Over the course of the day it became clear that the One is only counting one step out of every 10 or more. I tried restarting the One, changing my stride length, and wearing it in all of the various locations suggested by FitBit. I still cannot get the One to count my steps correctly. Anyone have any advice? Is my One just defective?

It doesn't sound good. I would try restarting a couple more times as the process is known to not always work. If it's still not tracking steps after that I would think it's defective and would seek a replacement from where you bought it.
