FitBit One issue

I recently purchased a FitBit one off a neighbor and the app is showing the product is fully charged, but It wont let me update.  I have never owned a devise like this before.  I've tried restarting it, but the screen is only black as soon as I take it off the charger.  I plug it in and hit the button and it says FitBit 6.46.  nothing else.  how do I get the screen to work and the software to update?

Sometimes it helps to do the restart procedure more than once - give it a try.
